I found another explanation:

Cause: A font is being used and cannot be installed. In newer versions ignore the error (since this also means that the font is already available) and simply continue with the installation. The issue may be resolved by restarting windows and loading the font installers from our website. Otherwise you can manually delete our fonts and restart windows.

I read a lot of tips today, and attempts to solve a similar problem in other programs are not unambiguous, and most often the recommendations come down to the decision to ignore this error, because it occurs when the font is already installed and occupied by the system, then this error appears.

Tested that installer now 4 times, and never got the invalid file handle error message - seems to work perfect
