Codecs

First of all, you should have joined the forum when you started to work with MP.

Second of all giving up when the program isn't finished and still is being developed is your call  and your loss.

A reinstall of your system is needed, and maybe you should try the Intervideo codecs instead of the nvidia, i tried them and couldent get them to operate smothely, but the Intervideo works great.

Alll of these facts can be read on the forum guides, maybe you should try reading it before, posting the way that you did..... :(

I almost whent there, and it's not fair on the guys that are doing a great job. "REMEMBER IT'S ALL FOR FREE" be patient.

Somehow I think I have seen these errors before, can't remember when and how, but I got it working.

Anyway I have been trying to get the new drivers for the pvr150 working, and they have given me nothing but problems. Could be this is related to your errors.

The drivers I am currently using are:
driver date :15.09.2005
Version 2.0.35.2358

You should Try this one or an earlier one. Remember that the hauppauge uninstall process is quite strange.

God place to look for drivers is at the forum at www.shspvr.com
They have an ftp site at ftp.shspvr.com

Also It's a good idea for us to know which tv standart you use. I am in Pal B/G land. (Norway).

And, does wintv2000 work correctly? If yes, your drivers might be working corectly.

Mixing memory modules is a big no. as Ronilse stated remove one module, preferably the one that your motherboard does not natively support.
Do a clean install of XP.
And as far as using pc for everyday use, that's what mine is Games machine, photo video editing, word processing and of course the internet and this forum.

    Never give up

I´m sorry if the software developers have taken any offence at my words but maybe, I should point out the fact that I began my first post saying I know they are working hard to get a good product but that IN MY PERSONAL CASE, I was unable to make it work.
Having said this, i´ll go on to answer some of your remarks:
Someone recommends reinstalling video and audio codecs, well this is something I´ve already tried myself quite a few times.
Of course, I´ve already tried too all possible combinations of filters, codecs etc.., just no result.
    Yes, WinTV2000 works perfectly.
Obviously, I do know that format is quite an easy process, but when my system is completely stable, except for MP. when I got lots of programs, I simply think all that fuss is not worthy.Maybe, some of you are so willing to format because you only use your systems as a HTPC and dont have much more stuff installed.
Another one mentions some sort of problem with directshow filters, well, it´s true that some time ago I had problems with them, they got all fucked up after using some driver cleaner software, however, MP wouldnt even work before that.
As for the hardware, I have the latest drivers for everything.
And finally, we get to the memory subject. Perhaps, I give it a try and purchase another PC3200 module, so that both are alike, though, so far, I consider my system to be rather reliable and stable. I mainly use it for video and photo edition which, specially video edition, are very demanding tasks.
I´m pretty sure I got all the needed files. I got WMP10, but however, in the setup the only available option is WMP9

    The advise should be taken.

The fact of the matter is that people here support MediaPortal in their spare time and not potential external elements such as the OS and or hardware configurations.

If you do a clean install then you can eleminate one of the potential causes then work from there to determine what it is if MP works ok or if the result is the same then looking at the hardware element could be the next step. If you don't try these things you & we will never know...

You may be right when you tell me to format but I wonder what sort of software this is that only works when installed on a freshly installed OS. If I had to do that for every program I install,I´d just go crazy.
I suppose I´ve come to a point where the only solution is to say MP goodbye, and maybe, when it´s finished and fully functional, in some years, I´ll try again.
I´d also like to add that I havent spent all this time (six months) trying as crazy to make it work. I would just spend some time experimenting whenever I could find time off, that´s something an unfinished piece of software is good for: just to experiment with it. Most of the people I know agree with me, they cant make it run smoothly either, each of them having completely different software and hardware combinations. I guess when all you want is reliability and stability in a mediacenter, you gotta choose commercial software.

So that is it? You give in? Not even a format of your pc to try if that is the problem and to get very happy.... :-D

A format is recommended every 6months anyway!!!!!

    Well goodbye then!

Well I still like helping even if it produces a negative response.
Unfortunately perseverance is one of my strong points, also the overall
potential of this software is AWESOME. if any Newbies out their do NOT get despondent by reading this post.
Too many good people have put a lot of effort into this for YOUR benefit.

Thanks to everyone who has posted a positive response.
And I wish i did not have to reply, but i am annoyed.
    PS cut the last reference

    Hey dude,

People are trying to help. Search the forum and see how many people have fixed their problems by reinstalling windows and just installing the required codec, drivers and patches (ie no Auto updates). Then you'll understand why this is often suggested as the step for problem trouble shooting.

Blame MP for this all you want. But in the end it is a simple step to try and see if something is messed up inside windows somewhere. Which by your own admission was a problem at one stage. Until you downloaded and ran "driver cleaner software".

If you do want to do that for whatever reasion no worries, but then leave quitely and stop wasting everyones time.

    /James
