Adding Manual Cover Art? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

Some of my movies are not displaying cover art as is it is not available on IMDB. Is there a way I can add my own pictures?

Of course - just add it to your catalog - depending which movie catalog software you use. In Ant Movie Catalog (and others as well) you can just drag/drop the images to the movie listing.

However, did you try to Download Covers from TMDB within MyFilms GUI? (Details Window Context Menu) - often you can pictures not on IMDB. Of course, still only for movies, not home videos/docus etc.

If you are not using a Movie Catalog software, then the easiest way in v5.1 is to add the image to the folder you select for covers on the Artwork tab in Setup. It should have the same name as the movie plus the prefix if you have used one in Setup e.g The Iron Lady.jpg or Sample_The Iron Lady.jpg (if your prefix is Sample_). If you have any problems, just post your MyFilms.log.

I did try dropping a picture file into the art folder with all the other covers & for some reason it would let me change a picture that was already there & it would show up in MP but if I added a picture to a movie (ensuring file name rules were in place, in my instance movies_) nothing would show in MP

You mention catalog software? I just use Myfilms 5.1 would you recommend a caralog software?

lastly.. (sorry for all the questions!) I am running this on my media center, but have a Desktop which I would like to manage the database on.. is this possible as it is a pain in the A** using the media center to add/change movies. I used to run MyMovies on my Server & maintain the Database from my desktop, but fell in love with MP after using mce ever since it began (2004 I think?) is there a way of doing something simular? I did try locating the xml file on the server & pointing my desktop & Media Center but strange things happened! (too many to mention!)

If you haven´t used any movie catalog soft before, I would strongly encourage you to use AMC.

Thanks For That! Do I have to run it from the media center though? can I run it from my desktop & point it to the xml file on the media center?

You can run both AMC as well as the AMCupdater provided with MyFilms from the desktop. Some users even run them on a server and all clients link to the central database. Actually you can even manage your movie catalog using MyMovies if you wish and use it in MyFilms. However,. AMC has the advantage that it uses the XML db format so you can update either via MyFilms or AMC and your changes are made in real time in both apps (no need to export) Sounds like a quick look at the MyFilms wiki might answer some questions for you? There is a section about AMCUpdater as well as specifics about using MyMovies with MyFilms.

Thanks for all the info, I prefer to import with the AMC Updater, but am getting used to editing in ANT Movie Catalog (although a bit fiddly) I just have two questions that arent covered by the wiki

1, about 20% of the cover art imported is corrupt as you can see by the file I just uploaded, some more than others... they vary around 90% - 10% corruption
(like the one attached) anything I can do to prevent this? It happens on all 3 of my systems & I have no other form of corruption in anything I do, so certain it is the AMC Updater/Scripting issue?

2, I would like to change the original Titles to my movie collection after it has been imported by AMC Updater to get rid of prefixed "The" or "A" etc i.e. The Last Airbender becomes Last Airbender, m question is when my collection is updated every 12 hours automatically will they get changed back?

Yeah - the main reason AMCUpdater was created a few years ago was because the batch importing/updating in AMC was not so great. So in MyFilms 5 Guzzi integrated it (although it is still a 'separate' Windows app which is why you can use it anywhere). However, you SHOULD be able to add your own pics without using AMC. If you post the MyFilms.log file (see Support Wiki page for details) that might give us a clue why it is not working for you.

I don't know for sure why your cover art is corrupt but I suspect a grabber script issue (you are using v5.1 right?) as I know there have been changes. z3us posted an updated version for IMDB in the AMC Updater Issues: Grouping & Covers thread. But I am not sure if that would be the cause of corrupt images - Guzzi will have to answer that one!

About your Titles - you know there is a feature in AMC to 'format' titles? In Preferences you can choose to display prefixes at the end for example - so The Last Airbender becomes 'Last Airbender, The' - Then in My Films set your Master Title (and sort Titles) to Formatted Title. Might be easier than editing all those Titles?

However, to answer your question - AMCUpdater scans and imports new movies/files (based on existence of the 'Source' data i.e. file path\name). Unless you run a batch Update (via Updates tab) it should never alter your existing data - and even then you control what records and fields and data are updated in batch mode.

If you're talking about AMCupdater - this is a known issue and fixed for next release.

No, existing films already imported won't be updated, if they're not touched.
