This thread seems to have fallen by the wayside. Any updates from the devs? I know you're all busy, but TVServer is effectively useless in it's current state.

With respect, only useless to you!

Of course we need someone to work out why things work fine for most users, but not for you (and possibly some others).

Can you install an older (working?) version of MP, and provide logs so we can see the difference?

Indeed, but as I'm the most important person in my life with regards to MediaPortal and it doesn't work on any machine I've tried it on so far, it's, as mentioned, utterly useless to me :)

Also as mentioned, it worked fine on the last SVN I tried. RC1 is the only build I've ever used that it fails so dismally on. I'll install an older SVN again when I get a chance and post logs.

Ok, I've done a full MP cleanup and just reinstalled MediaPortalSetup_1.1.0_BETA-1_rev23491 and then updated it to mediaportal-svn-01-08-2010--02-15-Rev24669.

Tuned the channels, set the recording path and started recording. I now have a successful 5 minute recording, which is about 4 minutes and 45 seconds better than anything RC1 has managed to date. Live TV works again too.

Logs attached. Hope they help track the problem down.

    No offence intended, but ...

Why am I going to the effort of reinstalling an older (working) version and posting logs if nobody's going to look at them? It's been a week since my last post and there's been absolutely no views on the logs I posted since then. Makes me feel it was a complete waste of effort and time on my part. :(

Again, I know you devs are all busy and have real jobs too, but if you're not planning on investigating something then please don't ask the end user for data you're not going to bother looking at.

I think I know why your recordings fail. The issue seems to be that video/audio arrives before the recorder starts waiting for it and thus ignores it. I have a solution in mind but I need to discuss this with a dev that is more familiar with the recorder to confirm.

Here are excerpts from your logs that show the problem:

In tv.log, recorder starts waiting for video audio at 14:59:46.820312:
    Code:
    2010-03-13 14:59:46.443359 [(16)]: Recorder.start add audioVideoEventHandler
    2010-03-13 14:59:46.485351 [(16)]: card: StartRecording 2 \\DISKSTATION\Recordings\DigiTV\Hit40UK - 4Music - 2010-03-13.ts

    2010-03-13 14:59:46.573242 [(16)]: subch:1 StartRecord(\\DISKSTATION\Recordings\DigiTV\Hit40UK - 4Music - 2010-03-13.ts)

But in TsWriter.log, video/audio is detected at 14:59:46.748:

I can't record with RC1 either - i can timeshift and watch TV with no problems...
I'm waiting for the RC2 comming out any day now - and then for the MP2 comming some day - i'm actually thinking of trying out media center with dvblink (using IP tv)... MP seems to be very unstable lately :(

AW: All recordings fail with RC1

    Hi all,

I can confirm exactly that behaviour, too. I also found that line saying "WaitForRecordingFile - no audio was found after 15.xxx seconds".

If there's any logs needed from another user I could help. Arion, if You need somebody for testing Your 'idea', I'm volunteering (within my possibilities) herewith. I installed RC1 on a separate test partition, so that I can quickly switch between test and productive system.

    kind regards from Stuttgart

me too, virtualy all recordings fail even if I happen to be watching the chanel (proving ther is a signal). MP stating ther is no signal has nothing to do with the strength of signal avalable. I were about to go looking from problems realted to having imported recording sceduales, but it appares that it just doesn't work. my logs atm probably arn't that relevent, I can post them later if you like but I'm sure the'll just say the same thing.

AW: All recordings fail with RC1

    Hi all,

I looked into the recording issue and found one possible cause for it:

The video and audio is seen before we are waiting for it (or better, we reset the events after the a/v has arived).

Someone who can reproduce this issue, please try the attached build. Make a backup of your old files before.

    Post logfiles after test!

edit: added the issue to mantis 0002807: A/V detection for recordings is not working correctly - MediaPortal Bugtracker
edit2: removed the tvserver binary, use the one from following arion_p's post
