I don't now what to say, I don't know where to begin. Mediaportal user since 2004. Always a satisfied user, I must add. Lately support for main plugins in Mediaportal 1 is deteriorating, so I tried the big step and switched to Mediaportal 2. One week. One entire week and still I can't use this bloody program. I'm a linux user since 2002, I'm used to get my hands dirty. But this is an impossible feat. Customization is almost non existent, the GUI feels sluggish at best, filter system is incredibly convoluted and automatic sources recognition is a joke. Nothing comparable to Moving Pictures or MP-TvSeries plugins, movies and tv series handling in Mediaportal 2 is horrible. Horrible. I don't know what to do. I think I'll give a shot at Kodi and if it doesn't work for me then I'll stick with Mediaportal 1. It may be a dying program, but it dies with style. Mediaportal 2 is not up to the task, it's simply subpar compared to 1. I'm sorry, but it's true. Only one word to define it: ANNOYING.

MP2 is still a "work in progress", although some people have been using it as their HTPC software.
Unfortunately, all of the MP2 developers have retired from the project, and so there will be no further progress that might have smoothed the rough edges and functional deficiencies.

In contrast, many people still use MP1, and MP1 is still actively supported. It is what I use. (y) :)

Well then. Mp1 is dying and development of MP2 has come to a stop. So sad, MP really was the number one choice for HTPC. I guess noone bothers anymore setting up their personal take at HTPC. People just buy smart TVs. So sad indeed.

By the way, any news about subtitles or weather plugins? Are we destined to live without 'em for good?

I don't think that the MP1 developers would agree with that. :)

I don't use subtitles or weather plugins, so I don't know what their current status is. But the "MP Extension Installer" lists two subtitle plugins, and five weather plugins. If you have problems with those plugins, report the problem in an MP1 thread with a full set of debug-level logs, and one of the MP1 developers may be able to address the problem.
