Re: [Android] aMPdroid 0.6 - Android Remote Control

DieBagger, Thanks a lot for this excellent app which fills an important gap in MP.

Here's some feedback regarding my installation process following your instructions. I am running MP 1.2.0 Beta on a Windows 7 client. The TV server is installed on a server running Windows XP. Windows firewalls are turned off on client and server.

  • Installation of TV4Home on the server went fine. Testing returns true.
  • Installation of .net 4.0 and GMA Service on the client went fine. Testing returns the expected string after entering the right credentials (User ID: admin; PW: admin).
  • Installation of WifiRemonte on the client went fine. After entering the Wifi Remote setup in MP Configuration, I tried to install bonjour by clicking the respective button. Nothing happened, though. I therefore installed bonjour on the apple web site. Now, the setup dialog says "Bonjour already installed". Testing the installation with the demo client showed that the setup is correct. I use the "No Authentification" method.
  • Download and installation of the APK file on my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 went very confortably using the tag on the download page.
  • Starting the MP aMPdroid app went fine. I miss the QR barcode on the setup dialog in MP configuration, though. Therefore, I had to set up the connection manually.
  • I am able to connect to MP on the client and to use your app as a remote control. I am also able to connect to the TV4home servic as I can access the EPG. I am not able to connect to the music and movie databases, though (the message "No connection to service" appears). I tried to de-/reinstall the app, remove/change the client settings, add the right credentials admin/admin to the GmaWebservicee, remove the credentials in the C:\Program Files\GmaWebService\config.xml file etc. without luck.

What else could I try?

Thx, G.

I am experciencing exactly the same behaviour as above.
My TVserver is on a win7 x64 SP1
One MPClient on Win7 x32 SP1 (same stuff with Bonjour, also manually downloaded from apple)
One MPClient on Win7 x64 SP1 The Bonjour installation did run well from the plugin

Looking very promising!!!:D

same here...
all the links you provided for testing work... but no connection.

Re: [Android] aMPdroid 0.6 - Android Remote Control

A few notes on some of the bugs that come up:

Cannot connect to service xxx:
Make sure you can access the services with the links I provided in the second post. If you can't connect to the hostname, try entering the ip address. To clarify which service is needed for which part of the app:
  • WifiRemote: For the remote control (first icon) and for starting videos/music on the pc
  • GmaWebservice: For browsing media/music (2nd and 3rd icon) and for downloading/playing stuff on the mobile
  • Tv4Home: For the tv related stuff (4th icon)

Some experience from the past that *might* have a relation with above issue?

I noticed on several occasions that when I had IPv6 enabled on my Win7 machines, I got errors connecting to the TVserver, from two different clients. Setting the IP adress of the server did work, but then the EPG data failed to show up. This has to do with the mysql server on the tvserver. My only solution was to disble IPv6 OR adding the tvserver to the hosts file in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

I'll have a look at it tonight

    Remote Control:
Remote control working - But would really like to be able to have some buttons for channel up and down.
And maybe icon to show numbers 1-9 to use with channel change.
TextTV (TXT) button would also be nice
    EPG button
I think there is room for more than the std. buttons.
Maybe different buttons for when watching TV, Music etc. and make it custimizable/personalization choose the buttons of own choice for what is shown on Televsion screen TV, music, movies etc.

Program Guide - TV part "working"
I can see the EPG for all the channels in my groups
    Starting recording from EPG working
Just found out that when choosing a channel name in the Program guide I can see all the EPG from the channel for the whole day and also the next two days - GREAT!!!!
Would be good if we could change channels from the EPG - meaning start TV on television option

    Maual Comtrol:
Can´t stop timeshifting of a channel that is being watched or recorded
Can stop timeshifting of channel when I manually start timeshifting

    Recordings:
Can´t find any functions here? Maybe streaming to device or starting playback on tv.

    Channels:
Playback on device/TV in future version?

Have not tried movies and music yet , but looking forward to try it :).

Are you planning WWW use of this software with all functions?

    EDIT
Request: Search specific groupname of channels for a specific title of TV show and show all shows with that name and RECORD the ones you choose from the search results and search resulsts sorted in groups with shows that have same names in groups.

    just my inputs :)

Well, I've fix the problem it was my mistake (wrong password^^).

Basically it works fine on my Samsung I5510, but here some bugs, or ideas:

-Video section shows just one video, but that one wore than hundred times.
-I don't know it it's just my delusion, but it feels like the touch-screen don't react as smooth as in other apps.
-It would be nice if it would be possible to download the actual track direct from the "Now Play" screen.
-It would be cool to play music from the Android divice direct with MePo.

Re: [Android] aMPdroid 0.6 - Android Remote Control

    Found some issues:

After resuming from standby, the GMA Webservice does not work properly. aMPdroid cannot connect untill I reboot my HTPC.
The "Shares" and "Folders" option in Media and MP3 don't work. When I click Media it says loading files and then it doesn't show anything. Videos doesn't do anything at all, but I'm not sure what it should show. When I click the Folders in the music section, I see my MP3 share but when I click it, it says "Loading failed, check your connection". Artists and Albums work, but Songs doesn't.

I also see some non-existing series in my TV database on the remote which I don't see in MediaPortal. There's probably errors in my database, but why does aMPdroid show them?
Also, the items in the music database seem to be case sensitive. In mediaportal, I only have 30 seconds to mars. In aMPdroid, I have: 30 Seconds to Mars, 30 seconds to mars, 30 seconds to Mars etc. They all lead to the same album though.

    Few suggestions:

Instead of stopping after playing a song, play the next song after it has finished (that's what MP normally does).
Setting either play on PC or download default for media.
Enabling a default view, but by the looks of the settings, that's coming.
A Watched / Unwatched option. Either a different color for unwatched, or hiding watched movies/series alltogether.
A configurable home screen, so you can hide things you don't want to use.
    Lose one loading circle :)

Poor DieBagger, so many comments and suggestions after the release. But then again: for a preview version it's EXCELLENT work!

I've got the same problem and would like to pity you, too. The amounts of comments might be a bit overwhelming.
I'd also like to say it again: Many thanks for this app. It's what MP really has been missing.:D

A few more problems though. I can view my series and movies, but they seem to get sorted by date added. Can i change this somewehere?
After reinstalling everything i still can see my music shares, but no artist, album or song view.
TV-section still not working at all. I rechecked with the links in comment two. They work.

Re: [Android] aMPdroid 0.6 - Android Remote Control

Hi guys, thx a lot for all the suggestions, but as the previous poster noted I'm not able to reply to all of you... Be assured though that I read all comments and will try to fix all the glitches mentioned here...

A few things if you are having connection problems:
    • Make sure your wifi is turned on!!! ;)
    • If you cannot connect to a hostname, try using the ip address (192.xxx.xxx.xxx) instead
    • Make sure you are using the correct password (default: admin/admin)
    • Make sure you can access the links from the second post from a DIFFERENT PC (maybe you have firewall issues)

Also some random thoughts on your suggestions:
    • Not able to see music albums/artists -> This is most likely a Gma problem with different databases (V11 vs. V12). Will look into it
    • If you have errors in GmaWebservice/Tv4Home/WifiRemote, please post the errors in the appropriate forums
    • Play multiple items (music album) isn't supported yet because WifiRemote cannot handle playlists (yet)
    • WifiRemote over http: WifiRemote uses TCP so it can send commands fast and receive replies asynchronious.
    • Sorting: This is not yet supported by the backend services, but high on the priority list

I had some time to spare. I'm not happy with the icons ;)

I'm not fully satisfied with the overall look either... (not a design genius myself ;)). Your mockup looks great, can you send me a pm with the graphic files?
