    Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has tried Server 2008 &/or Hyper-V with Media Portal??? I'm just crazy enough to be thinking of giving it a go but am interested to see if anyone else has had any experience with it??

My MP is running on 2k8 x64...
I also use the same PC as VM Host with Hyper-V for 2 Guests
    - 1 2k8 Web Server on
    - 1 Vista Test Client

You juste need some special config for TV cards and MCE Remote to run...

Thanks Mouch.net - can you please expand on what you mean by 'Special config'???

I'm actually now thinking of trying XenServer for virtualisation - might be easier to get linux drivers for the capture cards....

(Although I understand Windows a lot better than I do Linux so Server 2008 is probably easier...)

Did you also try to get MP running in the guest OS? Is it possible at all to "pass" the TV card to a guest system? Also, how is the graphics card of the host system handled? Can the clients make use of any hardware accelleration?

    Thanks for your info!

    1. MP Client is running fine on Guest OS
    2. Pass the TV Card to Guest is not possible as far I know.
    3. Graphic card is handled like in Vista with Vista driver on Host system and HW acceleration is working fine
    4. Guest OS uses Generic Graphic Adapter so, I don't think HW acceleration is possible there but I'm not sure

Does anyone else have problem with long (several hours) pauses of TV broadcasts? If I pause and forget, I can still resume TV the next day, but if I try to change channel or stop, MP freezes. Only way to fix is to restart both MP and TV Service. Sometimes I need to restart PC It seems that TVServer cannot proprtly handle large...

Just those I attached. I messed about with task priorities MP/TV-Server/SQL-Server and the issue changed to the skin.. I would do something, but it would be 10's of seconds before the action happened. Doing an Alt-Tab would flush the actions. Too weird lol!! So, with some flak from the family, I had to give in. I just did a...
