    Hi iiipm

I honestly did nothing except add debug output, which can't actually fix anything! Did you restart your computer or something? Whatever you did between your previous test and this one helped... for a while anyway.

Your logs tell me that scanning started and you were able to tune and scan quite a few frequencies. Channels were found and added to the channel list, then all of a sudden this happened:

[COLLAPSE]2011-05-03 22:31:31.186797 [ATSC scan thread(8)]: ATSC tune: QAM checkbox selected... using Modulation 256Qam

    [/COLLAPSE]

Catastrophic failure really doesn't sound good! The other frequencies after that all failed to be scanned with the same error. When you tried to watch the channels that were found, the same error also occurred there...

Okay, so where do we go from here? I'm not 100% sure. First, I don't know how you temporarily got the tuner to work. Do you have any idea what you did? My guess is that some other software or background service was using the tuner in your previous tests. Since only one program can use the tuner at a time, that would have prevented TV Server from using the tuner. Is there ATI media center software of some kind that you've installed? If there is, I'd recommend that you uninstall it at this point...

Anyhow, that issue isn't so much of a worry as the "catastrophic" error. I strongly suggest you turn off your PC, leave it off for a minute or so, and then start it back up again. After that, set up your codec preferences in MediaPortal configuration and see if you are able to view the channels that you found in MediaPortal (I'd recommend that you don't use preview in TV Server configuration at this stage). If that doesn't work then post logs again and I'll be able to tell if we're getting the tuner initialization error, the catastrophic error, or something else is wrong. How does that sound?

PS: Do you know if you are running the latest driver for your tuner?

So you shutdown, started up, scanned again, and got nothing? Okay. Do you have some fresh logs?

Regarding the driver: I asked about that because it is the driver that is returning the catastrophic error message - it is not an error message "created" by TV Server. If you're using the latest one then lets stick with that for the moment.

What about media software - is there any other software that you use the tuner in? It could be preventing TV Server from using the tuner, but it could also help us to determine if the tuner is still working...

    Hi again iiipm

In answer to your question: I'm not sure, but I'm not ready to give up yet. Let me tell you what I see in your latest logs and you can make a decision about whether you want to carry on or not...

2011-05-04 17:38:17.578110 [(6)]: dvb: A useable TV Tuner cannot be found! Either the device no longer exists or it's in use by another application![/COLLAPSE]

Okay, so the good thing is that we are not getting the catastrophic failure any more. We're back to the errors that we had with the first set of logs where the tuner couldn't be initialized. There is one difference: this time I can tell you more about what is going on since you're still using my debug DLL :))). So what happens is that the TV Server fails to connect what is called a "network provider" to the tuner; the error code simply means "couldn't connect pins" (read: couldn't make connection).

Now, I notice that you're using Windows 7 so you should have a choice of "network provider". The default one should be the generic one because that works the best on W7 and Vista, but somewhere along the way the specific ATSC network provider which is included for XP compatibility must have been selected. Looking back at the logs where we had things working for awhile I see that the generic provider was being used. Did you change that setting? In any case, I'd recommend we put it back to the generic provider:

    1. Open TV Server configuration.
    2. Expand the TV Servers section.
    3. Select your TV Server.
    4. Select the 650 HD.
    5. Click edit.
    6. Somewhere on that dialog there should be something about a network provider. You want to select the "generic network provider" rather than the ATSC one.
    7. Click ok.
    8. Go to the general section, which will cause TV Server to restart automatically.

(You can find out more about what those options do on the wiki --> here <-- but for now I'd leave the rest of them alone.)

I'm reasonably confident that changing the network provider setting will help. You may not be able to tune channels over channel 20 (that might be the catastrophic failure thing - the network provider is from Microsoft), but the tuner should at least work for some channels. Getting back to your original question, I think you should definitely try the setting change before you give up on MP. What have you got to lose except 2 minutes?

    Best regards,
    mm

    Hi iiipm

Just following up with you: did you manage to get your tuner working in the end?
