If a program released under the GPL uses plug-ins, what are the requirements for the licenses of a plug-in?

It depends on how the program invokes its plug-ins. If the program uses fork and exec to invoke plug-ins, then the plug-ins are separate programs, so the license for the main program makes no requirements for them.

If the program dynamically links plug-ins, and they make function calls to each other and share data structures, we believe they form a single program, which must be treated as an extension of both the main program and the plug-ins. This means the plug-ins must be released under the GPL or a GPL-compatible free software license, and that the terms of the GPL must be followed when those plug-ins are distributed.

If the program dynamically links plug-ins, but the communication between them is limited to invoking the ‘main’ function of the plug-in with some options and waiting for it to return, that is a borderline case.

I used ARC 0.9.0 in MP 1.3 to send MP3 to an alternative output.
When I upgrade to MP 1.4, the ARC installed crashed when opening its configuration window.
So I installed ARC 0.9.0 1.4pre. Configuration window could then be opened. But I cannot manage to make it work.
MP3 audio keeps in the OS default output device. I tried different configurations, both audio and video outputs, but nothing changed.
So I am awaiting the ARC version for MP 1.4.

Or any easy alternative workaround for changing the output device?

BTW: I am using LAV and MP-AR. My default audio device is HDMI, and the alternative one is stereo output.

Hello,
i think, i've the same problem after updating to MP1.4final (from MP1.2) and ARC 0.9.0 1.4pre.
Changing the audiorender during video or tv works fine, but changing with BASS-engine (music or radiotime) don't work.
According to the AudioRenderChanger-Log, the prog seems to miss the BASS-engine (which i've checked is set as default music-player) !?
You can see an extract from the log-file below.

Hello,
Why this plugin not works!
I use mediaportal 1.4 with windows 7, I want change output hdmi and output optical while watching movie but...
nothing!

because plugin is for 1.4pre and not 1.4 final. it seems the author stopt development.

In attach there is a test/unofficial build.
It works with MP 1.4 and the upcoming 1.5 (but only with BASS player for music).
There are still some problems in the OSD visualization.

If the original author does not approve it, i will delete the file immediately.

I'm missing a feature in this plugin and that is an option to return to a default renderer after playback. This is mostly WAF related and sometimes I forget to change it back and my better half complains about MP being silent.

I know that development is somewhere in limbo now but one could hope.
