Hey! am I missing something?

There is a vb script already for this. Downloads a zipped Aussie epg for Your region formats the channel names and outputs the file straight into the xmltv folder.

Where... :?

I presume DoodFish is talking about the vb script here: https://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/Download/Plugins/EPG/GetAussieEPG/

And although it does an excellent job (best grabber I've used in the short time i've been using MP), its still not the same as having an officially sanctioned EPG source. The vb script just uses JRobbo's EPG data (http://wiki.dvbowners.com/index.php/JRobbo's_EPG_Guides) which I presume he scrapes from websites in the same way that other grabbers do.

If he is, then I have already tried that one, and, as far as I am aware, it still uses ninemsn as its source, so it is still subject to the nonsense that ninemsn go on with about changing the encription to prevent scraping... :(

Also, the descriptions seem to be limited to 8 characters... :?

I'm guessing it does use ninemsn or something similar as its ultimate source, but at least this way someone else (i.e. JRobbo) has to worry about it when they change stuff, seems like he's pretty active & good at keeping it up to date.

As for you only getting 8 char descriptions, thats strange because I've been getting full long descriptions (as in long enough for MP to have to scroll them), including genres, etc, etc, using this one up until a couple of days ago... According to his site though his scrapper sources aren't working properly at the moment so he's temporarily only returning the partial info guides until he can get the full descriptions working again (i.e. at the moment they're the cut down info with shorter descriptions, no genres, etc).

Maybe you getting short descriptions is to do with which region data you're getting, I'm using the xmltvSydney.zip one.

The JRobbo site has two versions of each guide. A short description version and a long description version.
My VBScript just gets the long version. I did notice that for the first couple of days, it only retrieved the short version. My guess is that JRobbo only makes long versions for an area when people start requesting (downloading) it?? So maybe when I started nobody was requesting Canberra data?
I always get the long versions now
My advice (until Dugg is fixed) is persevere for a few days with Jrobbos data before giving up.
Note: I actually use a modified VBscript now that tries Dugg and if Dugg fails, then my script 'kills' Dugg and gets the Jrobbo data. So I basically have 3 sources of data (FYI. JRobbo has a mirror site)

You will find that at the moment they are both the short descriptions. Due to the current problems I believe there are issue generating the full description guides.

So that we do not need to keep changing our config, jrobbo is just putting the short guide that he has in both locations. Once the full guides are working he will put them in the correct locations.

    Cheers
