Thanks for your help, it now works.
what was stopping it from working was if the TV was set to 1920x1080 25i as default then ARC would not do anything. If I set the TV to 23.98 as default then all seems to work well so far in early tests.

Cheers.

Re: Dynamic Refresh Rate forcing 50Hz on my 59.94Hz HDTV content

    Hi,
I'm having trouble with Dynamic Refresh Rate switching my refresh rate to 50Hz when viewing 59.94Hz HDTV content. I've set it up per the instructions here:
    Stuttering Playback - MediaPortal Wiki

I've got a Sanyo PLV-2000 projector for a display device which supports 23.976, 24, 29, 30, 50, 59.94, 60 and a bunch of other timings. My Nvidia Georce GT 430 video card supports all the required frequencies too.

Playing content with other framerates (e.g., 24p) or 59.94Hz SD videos (ISOs) works as expected.

I tried the default DRR settings and got the same result. I tried using integers instead of the decimal numbers for the refresh rate and got the same result.

My best guess is that it is something to do with the following lines in my logs. But I don't know why the framerate would be 25...

    2011-10-24 21:46:31.096477 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: RefreshRateChanger.AdaptRefreshRate: framerate on file R:\\live6-0.ts.tsbuffer is 25
    2011-10-24 21:46:31.099477 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: RefreshRateChanger.SetRefreshRateBasedOnFPS: using internal win32 method for changing refreshrate. current is 50hz, desired is 50

Any suggestions on what I can do are appreciated.

I've attached a screenshot of the Configuration screen, a screenshot of the details from Shift-1 and logs.

    Thanks,
    Doug

Maybe I'm totally missing the point here, but if the files are 59.94hz and your display is capable of playback at that fps, why not just change both columns in the DRR config to 59.94, instead of 50hz. Is there a reason why you want to play them at 50hz and not at their native refresh rate?

judging indeed on the two graphs attached pictures. You are watching a HDTV channel @ NTSCHD 59.9fps.
As I recall, tv streams FPS are not detected prior to the graph building, so this presents the trouble your in. In the configuration section you predefined TV to be 25fps/50hz. So thats why its saying 50hz...
If it is only one TV channel like this, I think you 'must' come to accept it. If all of them are 59.9fps you could simply change the settings to what Steelman proposes.. 59.9fps > 59.9hz

Other thing you can try is to use a hardware accelerated decoder like PowerDVD (in SAF unlocked) Disable all de-interlacing to ensure this is not the cause either. If so you can turn them on one by one to see which one is giving you the headacke.

    good luck

Thanks. It wasn't clear to me that the FPS weren't automatically detected for TV. So this was the issue. Once I changed the rates for TV as suggested it works as it should.

I update my client with ION graphics to W7 and now have a problem. Under XP, to change the refresh rate I used the NVIDIA API (nvcpl.dll) as described in the first post. Under W7 that does not work. I have seen many people writing about this same problem on different forums, but never saw a solution posted. I'm using the latest drivers (285.62).

    :(

Anybody solved this on ION h/w?

I am having trouble with the dynamic refresh rate changer. It detects that it should change the refresh rate, but the refresh rate change fails (sdc_validate failed) in the log using the win7 method. I am running from a VHD on win7 x86 with MP 1.2.1 with an Nvidia 8600GT with the latest drivers.

Now for the interesting part ... I have a second VHD on the same machine, with basically the same setup (Only known difference is that non mediacenter type software - office, photoshop, etc. is installed on the VHD where dynamic refresh rate does not work) that I use for testing codecs and drivers. On this VHD, dynamic refresh rate works fine.

Therefore I conclude that the hardware does support Dynamic rate change suggesting a driver (although most should be the same) or configuration issue. Any suggestions on where to start debugging. I would really like to avoid rebuilding the machine.

    Thanks

    Hi mtp3,
Did you try the resolution + refreshrate settings outside of MediaPortal? Try it directly from windows (not within CCC). You need to accept its setting (press yes if you read this .. bla bla) to confirm it is working. Only after that it will also work in MediaPortal.

Thanks for the suggestion Edterbak. It does work from windows - I have been using this to manually change refresh rates. I think I will probably reload all the software over the holidays.

I solved my problem (and reloaded my computer in the process - it turns out it was not needed). My problem was that I was trying to change the refresh rate on the second monitor. The refresh rate change was being sent to the primary monitor. It turns out that this is a limitation of Media Portal.
