    Questions:

So does this mean the correct refreshrate is 60hz for the TV?

If im playing a standard def xvid-rip in MP is the resolution still 1080x1920?

If im using an alternate zoom mode does this affect resolution (and therefore required refresh rate?)

I dont think I understand the matrix in the excel tool and am not understanding how to set up the refreshrate changer for the tv. Any pointers would be appreciated. Im lost :(

1 - I dont think the manual gives all the available options. If I look at all the available resolutions, they are ALL with 60hz vertical refreshrate. I find that hard to believe. I bet it is capable of 50hz as well.
Maybe you can give me the exact samsung model. I can look it up for you.

2 - 1920 x 1080: this depends on how you have programmed the dynamic refreshrate thing in MP configuration. Difficult to tell from what I know about your setup.

3 - Zoom functions do something to the shape of the screen. If the source is 4:3 (old style, not wide screen) then zoom functions can give you a better use of your widescreen television. It is not connected to the refreshrate what so ever.

I think I have found a bug (this may have been mentioned before)!

When going from playing a video to playing music without letting the video end or pressing 'stop' the refresh rate changer will not return to the default refresh rate as it otherwise does.

This will cause the GUI to feel sluggish (at 23.976Hz) until I get the refresh rate changer to set the default refresh again (by start a new video and then pressing stop).

I guess that "video stop" is not triggered when switching directly to music.
Best would be if a video stop event would be triggered on music start or a workaround would to have the refresh rate changer be triggered on music playback start and setting (if not set) the refresh rate to the default refresh rate (the one you set in the configuration at the bottom).

I did a search on the model Samsung LA32A550. it seems that it supports:
    1080p @ 60 Hz
    1080p @ 50 Hz
1080p @ 24 Hz. (it supports the input signal, but what it does with it internally I dont know

Internet results: Site 1, Site 2

Its a good machine, the samsung. You can set things like:
    Cinema - Framerate: 24;23.976. Refreshrate: 24
    PAL - Framerate: 25 Refreshrate: 50
    NTSC - Framerate: 29.97; 30 Refreshrate: 60
    TV - Framerate: 25 Refreshrate: 50

Make sure you're desktop resolution is set to 1920x1080 when you start MP.
Also, test all the mentioned refreshrates from within ATI Catalyst Center, to make sure they all do work. If you test here and one does not work, it will switch back to the original refreshrate after 15 seconds.

    Good luck.

I bumped into some dutch threads about the 5 series of Samsung. It appears that it is capable of accepting a bluray input signal (1080p@24) but it can not show 24 frames per second. It seems that the TV itself does some kind of conversion to make it look a little better with 60 or 50 frames per second. There are a LOT of people out there who are bothered with a visible judder when playing 24p material. Also there are people here in the netherlands who are putting up a fight with samsung about it. This because they (samsung) pretend to sell a TV which is 24p capable, but in fact it is not really.

    :sorry:

Seems like 24p support on some brands are very bad.

Lot of different tv's are "supporting" 24p, but they are internaly converting the 24fps to something else, and the result cannot be anything else that stuttering / juddering.

Its a shame these kinds of marketing tricks are still happening.
I'm happy with my sony bravia D3000. true 24p in + out.

Is there a list of true 24p capable screens somewhere? (Is there a need for such a list?)

    Thanks Very Much :) :)

Yes, I expect the issue you describe explains why this has been such a sticky problem for me.

I will have a look at these xvids with the settings you suggest and get back to you with results....

Very kind of you to help. Thanks again

Ok so I tried the xvids. The DRRC goes to Cinema - Framerate: 24;23.976. Refreshrate: 24 When I play them, but they still stutter.

When they play it looks like a big frame skip every 3 seconds or so. Its an annoying and enduring problem that Ive spent several months trying to remedy.

So, I guess that means with this tv, there's no scope for fixing the problem with the refresh rate changer.

    Two questions:

    1. Can I use something like Powerstrip to fix this problem?

    and, if not,

    2. Is there a way to re-encode the files so that they dont skip on the TV?

(and, if not, DOES ANYONE WANT TO BUY A SECOND HAND SAMSUNG 32" TV?) :) <grin>
