Swede, thanks a lot for the bass tip. I have started a new version, but just found out that there are more issues with the latest SVN during final debugging. I will be out for a week and then continue looking at the latest SVN.

I have released version 1.0.0.2 which supports now the latest SVNs with the following changes:
- the file bass_wv.dll will be deleted for the latest SVNs if it is restored from an older version
- the Media Portal File Settings do now overwrite the "All Folders" options as proposed by Swede
- the "CAM" setting for TV cards has been removed in my plugin. Looks like this new setting was removed again from TV Server and did cause now an exception for the latest SVNs

Hi all,

I am still on 1.0 RC3 and want to migrate to 1.0.1 once it is out.

Is the BackupSettings plugin compatible with these MP versions? I.e. can I export all settings from 1.0 RC3 and then import to 1.0.1 without losing anything (or at least not anything vital or crash the installation totally)?

Thanks and best regards,
Chimbo

1.0.1 won't destroy settings from 1.0 - and BackupSettings does upgrade from RC3 to 1.0 - so you are fine anyway.

    Can't install BS 1.0.0.2 in MP 1.0.1

Because I had already installed SVNs I chose the "fresh install" option for MP 1.0.1.
This preserved a few of my settings in TV server, but the MP settings seem to be all gone.
I thought I could restore them wth Backup Settings, but 1.0.0.2 won't install - see attached error message from execution of install.exe.

P.S. After manually copying RestartSetupTV.exe and BackupSettingsTV.dll - from the SVN version - into the appropriate directories, I was able to backup my new 1.0.1 settings and restore my settings from 1.0.0.
BS warned me that my backup was made wth a previous version, but seemed to restore it anyway.
What do I need to watch out for?

rhartinger, what version of backupsettings and what version of MediaPortal are you using? if you are not using the 1.0.0.2 BackupSettings version please try to install the latest version using install.exe.

rsbrux, i have not tried Mp1.01 yet, but will install over the next days.
Can you try to download again Backupsettings 1.0.0.2 and install it. I suspect that your file may have been corrupted. In the extracted zip folder you should see after the download the folders
    - BackupSettingsTV_MP10
    - BackupSettingsTV_SVN
    and the files
    -BackupSettings.pdf
    -BackupSettingsMP.dll
    -BackupSettingsMP.exe
    -Install.exe
    -RestartSetupTv.exe

The warning from backupsettings on the previous version comes from generating the backup with an older version than restoring it.
In general it is recommended to make a backup with the latest version of backupsettings before you upgrade MediaPortal. Then you can restore all the data into the new MediaPortal version without getting this warning message. For more details on the version changes you need to follow the version history. In most cases it will work, but if it fails with a system exception you need to use the same version of backupsettings as you have used for creating the backup. The old plugin version is also backed up in the TV_Program\Plugins folder within your backup directory.

    Update:
I just installed MP1.01 and had no issue to restore the settings with backupsettings 1.0.0.2

That was my mistake: I ran Install.exe directly from the zipfile instead of extracting all of the files to a folder first.
Thanks for your prompt response, for your brilliant plugin and for the excellent and detailed documentation!

    Restore Backup unsuccessful

Just found all of my TV Server settings gone after updating my TV card drivers, so I tried to import my Backup Settings from yesterday.
Unfortunately, Backup Settings crashed the TV Server configuration, displaying an error dialog: "Import not successful - Check the status and the log file".
It's not clear to me what "Check the status" means, and I didn't find anything illuminating in the logfiles. Perhaps someone else will?

P.S. The error dialog won't go away. I have repeatedly clicked the "OK" button, but it doesn't respond.

P.P.S. MP subsequently crashed when I tried to go to TV, so the failed import must have left some inconsistent settings. Fortunately, I always make a new export before importing and was able to successfully re-import the latest export.
