wlgspotter, I just did an installation on a D drive and could not reproduce your issue. Please post the detailed error message and the folders for all four paths (MediaPortal base and Config, Tv Sever Base and Config).
I also assume that you did not change anything in the extracted zip folder, e.g. move the install.exe program out of the folder. The extracted zip folder must contain install.exe, RestartSetupTV.exe, BackupSettingsMP.exe, BackupSettingsMP, BackupSettings.pdf and two folders BackupSettingsTV_SVN and BackupSettingsTV_MP10

Hi huha:

I just did another test run of the install and it failed again. Yes I extracted the entire contects of the zip folder to my desktop, and run the install.exe file within the "Release" folder. The folder contains all the files and folders thatyou have mentioned.

When I run the install.exe, it did not detect my TVS installation. In manually selected the TV Server Program Base, which is located at D:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server. When i hit install, it gives 2 error messages: - firstly one is "Error could not copy RestartSetupTV.exe to D:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV + Server\BackuSettings\RestartSetupTV.exe", and the second one is "Exception message was Could not find the file RestartSetupTV.exe" The thing is the file in in the folder I've extracted.

The four paths are as follow:
* MP Base - D:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal
* MP Data - D:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal
* TV Server Base - D:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server
* TVS Config - C:\Documents and Settinga\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server

The MP paths were as defined in MediaPortalDirs.xml file.

I've included screenshots of the messages.

Thanks.

Can you replace install.exe in your original folder with the file in the attached zip folder. Please rerun and post the directory path of "Current directory is"
It should show C:\BackupSettings1.0.0.4\Release
Can you double click on restart.exe. If the file is OK you should get an error message "start tv server config manually.
Another try would be to copy the complete backupsetting folder on D:\ Do you see the same?

Update 6/27: Removed Install.zip

Hi Huha:

I replaced the install.exe files as you mentioned in the post above, and run it, but I don't see a "Current directory is" field or option. I've also coped the BackupSettings folder to D: and it's the same - I did see the installer version incremented to v 1.0.0.5 though.

Cheers!

wlgspotter,
please try again:

1) please look in your install.exe listbox for "Current folder is <foldername>" and post the foldername.
this comes after TV service is not running (before copying RestartSetupTV.exe)

2) Double click on RestartSetupTV.exe. You should get a window Process Call Error. If not your file is corrupt and you need to repeat the download and the extraction.

3) Last I would try a manual installation:
a) Create a folder "D:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\BackupSettings
b) Copy RestartSetupTV.exe and BackupSettings.pdf into the new folder
c) Copy BackupSettingsTV_SVN\BackupSettingsTV.dll into D:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\Plugins

Start TV SErver Configuration and enable the plugin BackupSettings.

Just tried the new MediaPortal 1.1Alpha and it is crashing Tv Server Configuration during BackupSettings import. I am working on it.

Hi Huha:

sorry I misunderstood your initial instruction.

Anyway, I tried running install.exe again, and the reported "Current folder is D:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MedirPortal TV Server. Note that my extracter BackupSettings files are located at and run from C:\BqackupSettingsV.0.0.4\Release.

When I double-click the RestartSetupTV.exe I did get the error you mentioned, so I don't think the download is corrupt.

Anyway, I'll try the manual installation method.

However, I'm just curious as to why I can't use the install program, and would be nice to know why it didn't work for me.

Thanks for your efforts - really appreciate it!
:D

Hi wlgspotter,
thanks a lot for your patience in debugging. Please copy attached install.exe into your folder and try the installation again. It looks like your default path is for some reason not changed when you start install.exe. I have added to the installer a manual folder selection if this is happening. So the installer will ask you to selct the C:\BackupSettingsV.0.0.4\Release folder manually.

BackupSettings 1.0.3.0 released

This version supports now 1.1alpha

Important:
Please note that your MediaPortal databases need to be regenerated if you upgrade from a lower version than 1.0.3 (1.1alpha). You need to do this in the MediaPortal Configuration e.g. recreate the Music database.
Old plugins and/or skins downloaded from the internet may not run as there were major changes in the code.

It includes the following changes:

fixed import issue which could crash the TV service when using 1.1alpha
I believe this was the issue which Roby 3 reported.

languages are no more overwritten during import

directory changes for 1.1 alpha of skins,languages and Tuning details

updated new .dll files when compiling for MP1.1alpha

installer differs now 3 different versions: MP1.0.0, MP1.0.1, MP1.1

added additional card/channel program features for 1.1alpha (CAM,episode,...)

installer is checking current directory before installation (issue from wlgspotter)

updated BackupSettingsMP for 1.1 alpha

included version checking and warnings for plugins, skins and databases if major changes did occur in Media Portal

Tv server is now stopped during complete import and restarted after the import is completed

    Multiseat Question!

    Hi,
    I have 5 MP Clients. Can I use Backup Settings to copy my Client settings from 1 completely configured client to the other 4 clients without installing all the plugins like movingpictures, trailers etc? FYI I have shared folders for thumbs and database on the noetwork.

    Thanx André

    Hi Andre,
    I have not tested this scenario, but believe it should work. Here is what I would try:
    1) Install the BackupSettingsMP plugin at every client. If you want to install the MediaPortal plugin instead of the TV sever plugin you need to blank the TV server installation path in the installer.
    2) Backup your installed client. This will also create a backup of your shared folders for thumbs and databases in the network. BackupSettings is using the paths from MediaPortalDirs.xml in the MediaPortal program Folder. It will also copy all your plugins and plugin configuration files if you use the default settings.
    3) When you import into one of your other clients, BackupSettings will copy first the file MediaPortalDirs.xml from your backup folder and use then all the installation paths from this file. This means if you import 4 times your data to a client also your network data will be overwritten 4 times with the same backup data like thumbs or data bases (unless you disable then in the advanced import settings)

    I assume all your clients use the same operating system and the same standard installation paths, as there are issues with installation paths between Vista and XP. So do not restore an XP installation to Vista or vice versa. Let me know how it worked out.
