I've been running MP for a while, configuring channels and never had problems. Only once I saw blue screen and reboot - on configuring WebEPG and watching loaded schedule in MP. What could cause it and can we somehow locate and fix the reason?
Any news on this?

    Hi again

I've been running MP for a while, configuring channels and never had problems. Only once I saw blue screen and reboot - on configuring WebEPG and watching loaded schedule in MP. What could cause it and can we somehow locate and fix the reason?

No, because you didn't supply me with logs. I can't locate the reason without logs...

You asked some other questions as well:
    - Regarding the EARS drive: I have heard many people report pixellation (picture breakup) and jitter (skipping) because of "green" hard drives like yours. At the same time there are also other people who say there is no problem with them. I have just bought two Samsung F4 2TB drives (also ~5400rpm 4kB sectors), but I will deliberately avoid using them for timeshifting or recording to avoid any problems. I have other 7200rpm HDDs for my OS and timeshifting/recording...

    - Can you explain exactly what you mean by "lagging"? Do you mean that the video and audio are out of sync (both video and audio play, but video doesn't keep up with the audio), or do you mean that the video stops sometimes and then catches up in a hurry? Sync problems are often caused by codecs, encoders, CPU overload or bad HDD performance. You've said that the CPU is fine. The HDD might be a little slow, but as long as it is not full or very fragmented there shouldn't be major problems. I've recommended the best codecs for you to use. That only leaves the encoders again. It is a common problem with software encoders...

Sure. They work but somehow strange - switch on some channels on 5th press up, never for down. They are properly mapped to "Channel up" and "Channel down" actions.

In general - how should ch up/down work when being in MP channel list? or when watching in full screen? Should it consider active group (analog, sport which I've created)?
I don't have a remote since I changed tuners. My old remote was an HID keyboard device, so it worked just like pressing keys on the keyboard. You could press keys in notepad to view the remote key codes. I think it worked like this:
    - when TV is playing in full screen, pressing a number selected the channel within the active group
    - when in channel list or not full screen I don't think numbers do anything
    - when TV is playing pressing "channel up" or "channel down" should change the channel within the active group
    - when in channel list you need to use the "up arrow" or "down arrow" buttons to move up or down within the list. These are different buttons to the "channel up" and "channel down" buttons.
I'm not sure how other remotes work because they aren't usually HID keyboard devices...

One strange thing more - if we are in MP TV menu watching TV in window, we move focus to video, press OK - video becomes full screen.
This is normal. The same thing happens if you press enter on the keyboard when the video is focussed...

But if we click "back" - cursor in menu moves to the first item. I guess it shouldn't.
I don't understand what you mean. Is "back" like backspace, or an arrow key? What do you expect it to do?

Ok, here is the log. Problems:

    1. Eurosport did not have sound again (I switched to it several times; eurosport-2 was ok).
    2. Blue screen and reboot in the end. Maybe running uTorrent could affect it - but there were no active downloads.

For "lagging" - did not have it this time.

For remote - let's come back to it after fixing missing sound and these BSODs. My task is providing digital recording of Eurosport - and now I can't be sure it will have sound and won't reboot.

After reboot and start of MP - sound in Eurosport was ok (please see second attach).

Before running MP with BSOD I was watching video outside MP - maybe it can be the reason of missing sound?

    Hi again

Ok, here is the log. Problems:

    1. Eurosport did not have sound again (I switched to it several times; eurosport-2 was ok).
There is no error in the logs. You have only provided TV Server logs though, so the problem could be in MediaPortal or TsReader and we wouldn't know. If the issue is with encoders or codecs then there would be no errors in the log at all. You would have to connect to the MediaPortal graph to see what audio codec is being used and to check that it is passing audio to the audio renderer (soundcard). This would tell you whether the issue is with the encoder not passing audio to the timeshift file (unlikely, since audio is present in Eurosport 2) or with the codec not passing audio from the timeshift file to the soundcard.

If the issue is with the encoder then you could:
    1. Try other encoders, although these are hard to find.
    2. Buy a new TV card with hardware encoding.
    3. Try restarting TV Server so the graph is rebuilt.

If the issue is with codecs (decoders) then you could:
    1. Try other audio codecs (FFDShow, Intervideo, Cyberlink etc.). Some people might recommend SAF (search the forum for this).
    2. Update AC3Filter.

Sometimes it is a matter of "trial and error" with codecs and encoders :(
    I use the Cyberlink codecs.

    2. Blue screen and reboot in the end. Maybe running uTorrent could affect it - but there were no active downloads.
Was anything else running besides MediaPortal and uTorrent? Anti virus software? Firewall? Blue screen is usually only caused by driver or hardware problems (overheating, overclocking, bad memory modules etc.). To be completely honest with you, I don't feel able to help you with this problem. I think it is very unlikely that it is caused by MediaPortal. The best thing I can recommend for you is:

    1. Make sure you're using the most up-to-date drivers for your motherboard, video card, TV tuner, sound card and other hardware.
    2. Check the event log for errors.
    3. Run Memtest to check your memory modules are okay.
    4. If the blue screen occurs again then write down the message so you know what is causing it and Google for a solution.

To give you time to write down the message, do the following:

    1. Right Click on “My Computer”.
    2. Click “properties”.
    3. Go to the “advanced” tab.
    4. Click the “settings” button under the headline “startup and recovery”.
    5. Untick the “automatically restart” box then click OK.

For "lagging" - did not have it this time.
This is good, however you didn't clarify what you mean by "lagging".
    - It could be that the CPU is running at 100% because of other applications which would slow down the video encoding/decoding.
    - It could be an encoder issue - this is a common problem for software encoders. Sometimes pausing and unpausing, or stopping and restarting the channel will fix it. A more "general" solution would be to try different encoders. You could also try restarting TV Server.

For remote - let's come back to it after fixing missing sound and these BSODs. My task is providing digital recording of Eurosport - and now I can't be sure it will have sound and won't reboot.
Like I said above, the BSOD issues are most likely caused by hardware problems which are outside of the control of MediaPortal. If MediaPortal is causing the problem (unlikely) then it is a different story. I could spend hours trying to solve this and get nowhere. I'm sorry but I just don't have that time available to me...

After reboot and start of MP - sound in Eurosport was ok (please see second attach).
I notice that you are allowing your TV Server to hibernate/sleep. Have you tried restarting the TV Service rather than restarting the entire computer?

Before running MP with BSOD I was watching video outside MP - maybe it can be the reason of missing sound?
By "video" do you mean "TV" in the Behold TV application, or just recorded video in some other application?
You can only use the tuner in one program at a time. Also, using the tuner in another application may upset TV Server when you try and watch/record TV in MP again.
What was the CPU usage like with MP and video going?

Thanks man, but I'm done after 2 more BSODs. Maybe I will buy tuner with hardware encoding.

Thanks a lot for your help!
