What does the K-lite pack do that screws up systems? People here are saying FFDshow is the thing to use and that's included in this pack

Treat codecs as translators, FFDShow does Divx/Xvid\MP4 and a few other bits.
Then you have installed Your mpeg2 codec.

Right all these things are translating what you have playing, example of what i am trying to get across is one word in English, may have with the same pronounciation, but another totally different meaning in another language, so the more Translators you have on your system, the potential for a mistake in what was meant is likely to happen.

I would say that most of us, who abuse\use a PC's capabilities have had to reinstall there OS because of a corrupt codec at sometime or another. (Twice :D )

    Hi,
Just to mention. We have had several ppl(irc & forum) who has installed kodecs packs & have had problems later with viewing movies, TV, streams, etc & as PD(to long name ;) ) say's, in many situations you have to reinstall your OS to get out off it again. The best is as already said, install only the codecs you need (& not all before you even or ever need them).

    Regards
    Roy

I dont even use FFDshow anymore as it caused too many issues on my machines to justify keeping it on a finalized HTPC. I only have two codecs installed for my needs right now - Xvid and 3ivx

when you have multiple codecs installed, especially codecs that can decode the same stream type, they tend to 'fight' for priority, or one codec will have a higher priority for that type of stream, when its not the best codec for decoding that type of video. this is where most problems on systems stem from.

Like Infinityloop and ronilse have already stated, only install the codecs you require.

Most (all?) small PC cases accept only ITX motherboards, which have only one PCI-E slot. So you could install only one PCI-E tuner card. A quad-tuner card would give you four tuners, but if you wanted more tuners you would need to use the TBS eight-tuner card, or use external tuners, either USB tuners (available with single or dual...
