    - use a HDMI-Cable and connect HTPC with TV (or through AV-Receiver)
    - Install Catalyst 8.12, open CCC and set 1920*1080 resolution, 50p Hz, 32 bit
    - Deactivate "scaling" in CCC (set to 0%)
    - Configure TV that overscanning is deactivated ("PC-Mode" or "HTPC-mode" or "only scan" - refer to the manual of yout TV).

If your Samsung TV iis one of the LExxAxxx series be aware that by default it probably applies sharpening to the image, even over HDMI. This can make the desktop, for example, look a bit strange. It might be best to turn the sharpness to zero in the TV menu. This may be true for other Samsung models too, I dunno I don't own any of those :)

New F7 BIOS for GA-MA78GM-S2H rev 1.0 and 1.1 (not 2.0) was released on 31st December - download here. There have also been some driver and BIOS updates for these boards and most of the other Gigabyte 780G boards- see here.

INSTRUCTIONS: Run the executable to extract the files- you only need ma78gs2h.f7 or whatever the similar file is for your board. Put the file on an empty USB pen drive that is formatted in FAT 16/32. Restart system- press End button - the QFlash BIOS programme will start - locate your USB drive select the file and follow instructions to update BIOS. Don't touch anything or press any buttons while it updates! When it is finished restart system and press Delete to load BIOS- you may have to correct your hard disk boot order. Then load optimised defaults and save and exit.

See also further info at Gigabyte and this warning:

"Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. To flash the BIOS, do it with caution. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction."

bluescreen problem with h.264 h/w acceleration

    hi,

I have recently been having severe instability with h.264 playback (live HD tv or recorded HD tv). I uses 1920 x 1080 @ 50hz into an HDTV at 0% overscan and the picture is quite nice.

I use cyberlink powerdvd 7 (oem version that came with my LG blue-ray drive) h.264 codec. When I enable h/w accelaration for this codec (in mediaportal config -> directshow filter control), every time I view HD content, I get either a graphics driver crash or a PC bluescreen reboot. the windows vista problem report thing claims it was a video hardware error, but I'm not sure I totally trust that yet...however, if I disable h/w accell for this codec there is no problem with crashing (mp plays hd tv ok), but the PC is is frequently at 95%+ cpu and dropping frames sometimes.

a curious thing is that this _was_ working fine when I installed MP. its only been crashing over the last couple of days, so I am nervous that something may be wrong with my h/w. or maybe some s/w changed that I didn't notice. But I have also gone back to a complete rebuild of vista and I still have the problem...

In order to eliminate h/w versus s/w can other users of this Mobo if you have stable h/w accell HD playback with the builtin graphics only please help me out by posting the following?
    - exact catalyst version
    - exact codec versions
    - anything else you can think of!
then I will try the same version.

    many thanks,
    Ian

MP timeshifts everything. you are watching a recording from disk all the time. this introduces a few seconds delay.
I have tried to turn it off, but without success...

I'm using the Gigabyte 780g/Ati 3200 mobo with an AMD Athlon 64x2 5200 and only 2GB OCZ Gold DDR2 (soon to be upgraded, though) on Vista x64 with aero turned off.

I was getting awful tearing issues, as well as my hi-def mkvs were... not sure the word for it, but when the video has to play "catch-up" every few seconds and gets all speedy and jerky, quite frustrating. It was happening on everything I played in MP, even blu-rays, but not in media classic, WMP, or Powerdvd.

Changed my settings from EVR to VMR9, and ensured I had the anti-tearing option checked like I read in this thread and BAM! All cleared up, and running smooth.

    :D thread!

Mentioned elsewhere and here, you need aero on for EVR to work. Most likely the cause of your issues. Good to see you found a solution that suits your own requirements. Out of interest why dont you use aero?
