Did you try the DivX codec?
Yes, it runs smoothly for a while, but MP crashes after a few minutes or if I try to reurn to guide. ffdshow DXVA similar.

Also, has anyone else had this weird channel renaming bug?
No, not here. I use DVB EPG grabber for SD channels, webEPG for HD, as advised to me at the start of this thread.

On another note, I just upgraded to latest 10.12 ATI Catalyst drivers and I now have "ATI MPEG Video Decoder" as a choice under H.264 Video Codec (and also under MPEG-2 Video Codec). This option does not work at all for HD (but it does for SD). And there was me getting all excited... Also to note that, with the graphics driver upgrade, there is no improvement for any of the other codecs.

Any useful pointers in the logs?

So do I. I've adjusted the DVB EPG grabber to only grab once a day, and it has helped matters in that the bug occurs less fequently (now only once every few days). However, once it does happen it is a bit of a pain to fix.

Just thought I'd mention...

I nipped across to the dark side to see how W7 Media Center (64 bit) handled Freeview HD on my system. Wish I hadn't - it is silky smooth with good sound on all channels! I still have not achieved this in MP - even using Microsoft DTV for h.264 decoder still gives me a small stutter every second or two.

So now I know my system CAN do it, but it must be said W7MC did struggle with its animated menus with HD playing in background - which points to my integrated ATI HD3200 working on its limits.

Can anyone suggest a fanless video card which would do the job here? Also, I am still looking to try another AAC codec to try if anyone can point me to one (I only have DivX and Monogram).

Thanks

Hi Hoverdonkey - (I've been watching this thread with interest re the card) ahhhh, the integrated HD3200  I have this on my motherboard and found that HD TV wasn't a satisfactory experience at all - I even tried overclocking it, but it didn't help. I took the plunge and got a HD5550 1Gb off eBay for £40 - it does have a small fan on it, but you cannot hear it at all; I think you can also get this as a passively cooled device, but the heatsink on it is quite large, and for me was just too big. The change has been really impressive - even the GF commented which is unusual - if it doesn't involve shoes or coats she shows no interest.

Since changing to this card my HD experience has been greatly improved with my dropped frame rate going from 3%, down to just one or two dropped frames. I use streamedMP which looks good too. For some reason when using the HD3200 I had more picture problems with BBC HD than ITV which sounds odd as ITV if full HD. (I use a DVB-S for the HD channels)

This thread may be useful - here

    HTH,

I bought my card just before christmas and had a crap time getting it to work without crashing what I found was it didn't like my Nova-T-HD DVB-S2 card that I was using for recording HD from Freesat once I had disabled that card everything settled down and its been reliable ever since.

Video for me is silky smooth on my HTPC / TV server the OS on this is Vista Ultimate 32bit and has an HD2600XT (Cat 10.12) in it atm. For LiveTV I use Core AVC 2 codec for H264 and Divx Audio codec for the AAC Audio the only issue I seem to have still is the sound one, I sometimes can't even play back a recording, cutting the recordings with VideoRedo first helps with the sound issue sometimes but is a process I could do without unless I intend to archive the recording.

I did a test of recording two programs simultaneously, the one I did from BBC HD has garbled sound when played back through MePo even after trimming the Pre and Post record section with VideoRedo whilst the other from ITV 1 HD plays back ok. PowerDVD 10 is the only Media Player that can play back any of the HD recordings I have made before I cut them using PDVD the sound is perfect every time.
I was wondering how to force the PowerDVD Audio Codec as the AAC codec of choice as it seems to support the AAC LATM/LOAS audio stream, I have watched some videos with the information box enabled in PDVD and you can see when the audio changes bitrate and also when it changes from AAC 2 2ch audio and AAC 5.1 6 ch audio. I haven't found any other codecs that are accepted by MePo for LiveTV AAC as yet.

Even when I stream Live TV to the PC I use in my office which runs Win7x64 and MePo TV Client this has an Nv 460 GFX card, I use the MS DTV codec for H264 on this but I am still stuck with the crap Divx one for the Audio and I still suffer from garbled audio some of the time but the video is stutter free.

I have tried long and hard to stick with my integrated HD3200 (to save some Watts more than £s) but it seems like its days are numbered! Thanks porky996t for showing me the light!

Is it possible to use [in MediaPortal] the AAC Audio Codec that Windows 7 Media Centre uses? I only have DivX AAC and MONOGRAM in my options. Or is MONOGRAM AAC the one Windows MC uses?

So far as I know MC uses the Microsoft DTV-Audio codec, and I don't think MediaPortal is able to use that codec for AAC/AAC-HE yet. The team plan to improve support for audio codecs in the very near future...

Thanks mm135000. I posted some logs in post #4.

I have the same - ITV1 HD is smoothest of the four HD channels.

This post might make sense of that. In a nutshell, if ITV1 broadcasts at 1080p, then GPU has less upscaling work to do, hence smoother playback. Just a thought.

BBC may be using h.264/he-aac features that allow them to squash their channels into less space. This often adds a lot of complexity to the stream, which sometimes leads to codec compatibility issues.
