Using TVServer3 or the MP built-in one?

Yes you need to have your channels names the same as what is in the xlm file that comes from xmltvnz. i.e In the xmltvnz .xml file TV3 is called TV3 so if you call your channel "TV Three" then it won't work. As far as the import goes it depends on the which version you are using but basicly you just need to specifiy the location of the xmlfile.

hmm but there are numerous places where these are named

Do you name them under MP setup > live tv > capture card

or the menu below it, or do u set it up under MP > general settings ?

and do i need to do a REFRESH (F3)? for these to actually update? cause i have never done that after making any changes, i just thought it would import the xml data for the tv guide every time you load media portal.

Hi all

Been focused on the building of our new house, but need to start getting myself ready for the wiring, so back to my little HTPC project

Think I will go for the Skystar 2 as the DVB-s receive. Just to confirm. In MediaPOrtal I would need 2 of these to be able to record and watch 2 different channels at the same time.

If I was to go to MediaPortal TV Server, is this still the case?

If you want Radio I guess I'll be getting a PVR150 or similar?

Hardware wise I keep tossing between alternatives. The Wife Factor is going to be extremely high

Any businesses in NZ which have a good selection. Ive checked Ascent where I normally buy stuff online, and not a huge collection.

* Whats the cheapest, smallest "thing" you can use as a client/extender?

* Since we are building from the ground up Im planning on running heaps of CAT5 and RG6 to a central storage area, in addition to my home office. Any suggestions on config etc which dont result in PC's in every room just to watch TV, listen to music etc? Seems you can easily run 20-30m (60 ft area) of Rg6.
Initially that might be my safest option in having the "media portal" box out of sight (and hearing distance) and just use an additional input for the required DVD in the lounge.

My goal is that will need to be able to watch and record different channels at the same time, so if TV3 etc are on a different transponder I'll need to make sure the HTPC has room for a second card?

It's been a while since I used TV2 ( I only use TV3 now) but there should be one main "TV Channels") Section under The television section. Name your channels in there and go to the xmlv import section and specify xml file location . As long as the names match up then you should see the guide in MP.

btw You can set the names in the xml file after it has been downloaded fairly easily but you would need to script it. somehow.(I think the names already there make sense tho)

Correct for TV2, you will need 2 cards.

Yes you are best to use TV3(TV Server) if you intend to use DVB-S. Watch/record 2++ channels on one card as long as they are all on the same transponder.

Yes, I use a PVR-150 for analog TV via settop box (Sky)
Remember that you Won't get Prime with freeview at least not for a WHILE
I don't use Radio, but yes the PRV-150 will do I think.

No too sure on this one. I use a compaq evo W4000 workstation desktop, it's the same width as my amp and it also has a silver front, with a DVD drive at the front. Still looks like a PC but my wife is very happy since everything works so well and media-portal provides such excllent features, If she complains about things, e.g. Bugs in Mp I offer the option of going back to standard TV! i.e no recording no guide etc ;-)

Yeah I think its basicly fancy looking teletext! Hopefully they keep providing the normal dvb EPG otherwise MP will have to support EPG via MHEG OR we'll have to use xmltvnz (good but not as reliable as DVB)

Good question, I think they will be on a different transonders but maybe not. Get all the latest on freeview info here:

Just to let you all know that TV3 and C4 are now broadcasting on the optus D1 satellite, hooray!! Unfortunately on a different transponder from TV1 and 2, Boo!!

To save rescanning all the other transponders i went into the folder C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\Tuningparameters and opened the 158 superbird ini file as i dont use this satellite. I then deleted the information inside and pasted in the following

Afte saving the file i was able to open the tvserver config programme, go to the tvservers and then the sat card and change the satellite to 158 superbird etc, and then scan. You could of course just add the above to the existing optus d1 tuning info and i'm sure it wont be too long until joshyfun update their database anyways.

This should give you something else to watch on ANZAC day, big cheer in our house last night as we watched boston legal for the first time in ages. Its bye bye terrestial in our house. Thanks to rhys for the previous post which contained a good link to a sat forum and thanks to the MP developers for giving us the best HTPC software on the planet.

yeah fianly! Pretty sweet! I had really bad reception on TV3 and c4 on vhf. Hey Mds are you getting epg on TV3 and C4? I'm not :-(I thought it might just take a while but I checked it this morn and I got nothing, (Also using TVE3)

Hi Rhys, yes i have the epg and i'm also using TV3. We had recently moved house and the vhf was unwatchable so delighted that Freeview is coming together. If only Prime would come across but fat chance i'd wager. The epg came through pretty much straight away, i'm sure you have but did you configure the epg grabber?
