I assume you are using satellite with MPEG-2 audio. I haven't yet found a way to edit any programs recorded from Freeview with AAC+ audio. Last I looked (for many hours) there were no free splitters which supported LAT-M. Anyone know of any?

..I have a routine of using Handbrake to convert the file to avi format and then use SolveigMM Free cutter to cut out a music video....

I've only had one "play" with Handbrake - it took ages to transcode the programme with no real (worthwhile) reduction in the file size so (unless I did something wrong) I take it the reason Handbrake is used is to give a file which can be edited? I didn't use Handbrake the last time I "chopped up" a Music show - I think I only used VideoRedo but it's been a while so I may have used some other software too...

    Hi Bleazie,

Had issues with the ForTheRecord install unfortunately. It didn't seem to let me put in a UserID and Password on the SQLServer dialog box and test connection - I hit OK and it installed, but cannot add tuners - comes up with invalid username? I think the issue is the username at the "set services account" stage. What should this be? I managed to go into services and set as localhost, but cannot add tuners - have shared recording folders as suggested as per Vista requirements.

A bit confused and tired now!!

    Cheers

    Graham

BTW, any help on this thread would be appreciated as well ..... had this issue since I have had MP

Bummer! Oh well at least you'll have a relaxing day at Kelly Tarltons today...

...I think the issue is the username at the "set services account" stage. What should this be?

I leave both fields blank, which then automatically makes it the "admin" account (I think it says something like that on that "screen too"?)

....It didn't seem to let me put in a UserID and Password on the SQLServer dialog box and test connection...

I'm not sure but I think I use sa/MediaPortal (<- "Capitalised" like that) as User Account & Password (or whatever those fields are called - I'm going from memory). It might pay to take a look at this thread on the 4TR site for something which caught me out last time I upgraded 4TR (For The Record - View topic - Problem with larger Font Size

    ..A bit confused...

Hopefully it's just those couple of things that you need to sort out. I've never had to do anything in the Windows Services panel or with the database (wouldn't know how to do anything there anyway). Once you've got 4TR installed and the plugin installed in MP TVServer config (make sure the "shares" are showing, if not you need to check your sharing set up) from there you scan the channels like normal in TVServer config and hopefully the rest will be self explanatory (in the manual)

I'd say Kiwijunglist is probably the man to point to that thread, I've got very limited knowledge (read that as "none") when it comes to that sort of stuff  :D

Looking forward to your next update.

Don't put your hand in the stingray tank at Kelly Tarltons, those fish in there bite hard! Last time I was there a trainer told a group of kids to wash the fish off their hands in the tank after they had fed the stingrays and my son got bitten - lots of blood too! It was a bit ironic that it was a little fish that did the damage and not one of those big rays :D

@ Graham: Have yout 4TR sorted yet? I just installed the latest Beta version (for testers) and noted that I use MySQL with the Username and Password being "root" (the default) and "MediaPortal" respectively.

    Hi Bleazie,

Been away for the long weekend, so not yet - the wife is away for work over the next 3 days so plan to have a good go!!

Thanks for the Username / Password tip - there is nothing about this in the installation manual for 4TR, so will give it a try - I remember setting the password to MediaPortal for the current instalatiion as per MP manual but cannot remember if a username was entered.

Will definitely let you know how I go - will hopefully get the chance tonight!!

OK gang. Ive been having a few issues since moving to 1.1.0 so Ive decided to strip the two sata drives from my HTPC and stick them in my server and jsut have a single IDE drive to run XP Pro with Mediaportal.

Its been a long time since Ive done a completely fresh install. Probably years, so whats the currently held 'best practice' for our kiwi needs ?

Im thinking 1.1.1, streamedMP and SAF5.o should be all I need to run all HD tv plus the 1080p content I have on the server.

The HTPC specs are all the same as in my profile except for the drives. I want to have this as lean as possible but most importantly it needs to work ! Ill be looking at the likes of 4TR once I have this up and running again.

    Have I missed anything ?

I have just rebuilt my Mediaportal client machine (ie blew away Windows XP and reinstalled on the same hardware) with:
    MP 1.1.1
    StreamedMP
    Moving Pictures
    My TV Series
    and 4theRecord
and already Im impressed with the speed and stability of the new version compared to 1.0.2 (and I was pretty happy with that as well).
The only change I made from my 1.0.2 install was using StreamedMP ... and its a very comprehensive skin with soooo many features.

    Hi Fellow Kiwis,

I have just moved to ForTheRecord and loving it!! I can see from other forums that this application uses Vista power management for S3 sleep, so I'm thinking of moving away from Powerscheduler / XMLTV Plugin, however I use Powerscheduler to download my EPG from Reven. I have a Nova500-T TV Tuner Card, so I'm on DVB-T.

Can anyone else who has the same setup i.e. ForTheRecord and a DVB-T card make a recommendation on the best setup to grab EPG and put the machine into S3 sleep including details on EPG grabbing and where from. I'm also hoping that moving away from Powerscheduler will mean any other application running e.g. Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer, Skype etc will stop the machine going into S3 sleep (which has to be set in the "Processes" Tab of Powerscheduler)

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers

For your EPG install the EPG Collector
EPG Collector | Download EPG Collector software for free at SourceForge.net
It uses the MHEG5 stream broadcast in your DVB-T Signal ... no more screen scrappers ... and it works brilliantly ... and coded by Kiwis!!
