I've never been able to access the Web Interface outside of my Home network which is a real bummer...
The web interface is the thing that lured me to try FTR last time I tried it. I managed to get it working eventually with great difficulty. I think I made it much harder for myself because I wanted to use Apache instead of Cassini (I was already using Apache for other services), but obviously Apache doesn't natively serve ASP pages. mod_aspdotnet to the rescue! Anyhow, as a proof of concept it worked great. However in practise I only have one computer that is used for everything, and it lives in my bedroom. I can't get to sleep if I leave it on overnight as it is really noisy, and it also consumes a fair amount of power. I would have configured WOL but my TV cards don't like hibernate/sleep (they disappear on resume). Maybe one day when I can afford a dedicated low-power HTPC I'll try again... :)

I can't seem to allocate time to install and learn FTR, and all I find lacking in the standard MP TV system to support entering a list of program names, or portion of program names to always be recorded on a specific channel or all channels. Hopefully this has have already been added to a "Suggestions" forum.

Without wanting to turn this into a FTR thread (aaahh.. what the hell, is there even a "theme" in this thread apart from the fact that we all have a blue flag with red stars on it? :D ) I've got to say that there isn't really anything to "learn" when using FTR. The first few times I tried to install it (a LONG time and many versions ago) it was a mission and I couldn't get it to work but if you read the instructions (takes maybe 5~10 mins?) and then install FTR I think you'll find it pretty straightforward. Having said that it sounds like you might not need the extra features it has anyway except for the ability to always record a certain programme - which is an awesome feature of FTR....

Just remembered something else I (kind of) use - I never get around to watching the News so I have FTR set to record it every day then automatically delete it after 2 days. Why do I do this? If I hear that say a volcano has blown up in some South American country (or whatever) the day after it was on the News I can go watch it :) To be fair I don't do this too often though because I think the Free to Air News we get in NZ is crap, it's like watching a magazine show (imho) so I generally use the internet for info and pics etc anyway (I use the InfoService/Newsfeed plugin a lot :) ) but on the odd occasion that I DO want to take a look at the News I can - I could live without this feature but I've got FTR so I don't have to :D

One thing I use FTR mngemnt console for, is the ability to say a upcoming recording of a episode that I already have in Tv-Series plugin, can be added as having been already recorded, so it never shows up again or records.

    - your flag is a bit wrong :D :D :p

Nice - I've never used it for that - I would try the "don't record repeats" but I'm not sure how well that would pan out when one channel says a show is a repeat (because they have played it before) and another doesn't because they haven't - I'm thinking of shows like Man V Wild and Mythbusters etc which seem to appear on more than one channel - but maybe not, I don't pay that much attention - I should look at it...

Beer is tasting good at the moment.... :D (the MP forum could do with a few more emoticons....)

You can do this in MediaPortal, in the advanced recording settings you can set to keep x episodes or something, I have the news keeping one episode for when I want to watch it.

FTR beat me last time I tried to get it working as well. The family is going away for a week in July so maybe I'll give it another whirl then.

Edit: That was the other thing I was going to ask Bleazle, how the hell did you get comskip working. That has been my other failure in life :)

One week with no family.... I reckon you'll have FTR sorted by the time they get back :) (but do you really need it based on what you said?)

If you're using DVBT you're wasting your time (from what I understand based on other people's posts) but with DVB-S it's pretty straightforward - I can't remember the exact details (search this thread, I've posted on this before) because it's so long since I set it up but basically I think it was just a matter of installing Comskip and then setting FTR to run it - you have two options; run Comskip after the recording has finished, or run it while it is recording. It makes no difference to the results but on my old P4 HTPC was a bit gutless so I ran it after the recording was finished whereas my new HTPC is way overpowered so now I run it while recording :)

Good luck on eliminating that failure in your life - it's a bit of a major - actually I'm not really sure how you can live with yourself :D

i gave up on comskip with dvb-t and went back to dvb-s just because id rather have comskip :)

Okay, im currently only using MP with freeview, I dont have sky but ive been thinking of getting sky. the problem is im not sure how easy it is to setup a sky decoder with MP and then get MP to (reliably) change the channels on the Sky decoder. I have a IR Blaster to use but is MP always going get it right?

If anyone has done it before, please share your experience with us.

I don't know the answer but I've seen this come up a few times before in this thread (like the Comskip and FTR thing etc etc) - we need a "sub forum" or something to cover the stuff which keeps getting asked just in case the guys who know the answers disappear!... where's Paranoid Delusion when you need him??? :D Hey P.D., how about getting us Kiwis set up with our own "sub-forum" just like popular skins etc have or do we have to "speak to" High about that?
