mrs rocklander is watching shortie now so wont interrupt that to get watchdog going for crashes, but I've attached the logs that are there.. and redid the diags mode via RDP

In your TV Server error log. Perhaps a firewall configuration issue there?

Other than that, I don't see any further specific problems.

okay. I put a firewall rule in, but that mad no difference.

so I thought bout the codec scenario, and realised that in my 'successful' XP server I had the codecd (klite and cccp) installed prior to MP. so I uninstalled XP, then reinstalled it (knowing that I've now already installed the codec packs) and boom.. she's swapping channels nicely again.

I can post my codec settings if anyone is interested (they are notably different than the link above), but I suspect the important thing may be the order of installation.

I'd be interested. A reinstall should *not* be required. It may be that other codecs are actually being used - you could figure that out with GraphStudio...

I bought a Technisat Skystar HD 2 from Ebay a couple of months ago. It took 7 weeks to get here from Germany, and that was apparently within DHL's 8 week estimate (it had taken 2 to 3 weeks in the past for other tuners). Patience is hard.

yup.. since there's a tom petty doco on prime at the moment, I may as well say 'the waiting is the hardest part'.. although these issues are no walk in the park

and I spoke too soon... weird it was working fine for about an hour, but the ts error reappeared when I tried to change from prime to 3

could be cos I'm also recording 3+1 at the moment, but the nova-S (x2) should give me 4 sessions shouldn't they?

Have you tried changing to the DVBS network provider as I suggested earlier for something to try if you had problems?

[edit] .. changed to dvb-s and.. nope.. no good. still fails.
I also tried to give each card its own timeshift directory (was wondering if there was some access conflict) but nope.. still happening.

not sure if it's noteworthy or not, but on the old XP system if I started watching a recorded programme on the main server (mp01 attached to lounge TV) and stopped it part way I'd get the normal option of 'resume' on that box, but when I went to the bedroom client to watch same recorded programme IIRC I started from the beginning, but now it asks if I wish to resume on the second client.

is it possible that I need to increase the "wait for timeshifting file" time? just looking through my options on the server.

further update (in case anyone is able to offer some more insight). it's been fine all day today, then this evening it's started happening again..

Unlikely to be time, but it could be signal. I did notice that tuner #5 seemed to be less reliable than #6 in the logs that you posted earlier. How are you splitting the signal?
