Ray, thanks for that tip on Filmerit. That has helped me fix my problems and I now have LiveTV and can watch TS files from the library - perfect. May the fruit of your loin live long and prosper in a land of serendipity... you can tell I am a happy camper.

Now im on to getting the TV Guide to Work

Why not get something like this:

That'll cost you almost 1/2 as much and you get a bigger dish and dual LNB incase you want it down the track.
IMHO a dish is a dish a brand new $200 one won't out perform even an old $30 ihug dish! (As long as you have a good LNB)
Good to see you got the channel scanning sorted out. It's odd that it works on cable and not antenna.

Hi All,
I'm new to the media portal world, but am very impressed with what I have seen so far. I have setup Media Portal + TV Server in a single seat configuration. I have installed a Hauppage HVR4000. I am able to watch the freeview channels, an am very happy.
However, I have two problems:
1. In the TV server config, I do not seem able to find any analogue channels. I'm really only after prime. My actual TV is able to recieve these channels, but the TV server doesn't seem to pick anything up.
2. The MyTV plugin does not seem to stay enabled between reboots, and before I go into the Mediaportal Configuation and enable it, MP gives me a EPG with all of the free + sky channels, that are not mapped to ay card. This might be a hangover from my misguided attempts to use XMLTVNZ, which I realised I don't even need.

You will probably not be able to get any analog channels on the HVR4000 because it does not have a hardware encoder included. I have the HVR4000 also and apart from one instance when I did get that card to produce a picture I have never been able to reproduce it. In any case, I certainly could never record from the analog tuner in that card. Its a great pity that there is no software encoding add-on available for MP. I recall there was one for GBPVR but I have not seen that around for a while.
So, the only workable solution really is to hunt around Trademe for a used PVR150 or PVR500 card which works very well with MP and gives you all of the analog channels you can eat. Alternatively you could try www.ascent.co.nz who have the PVR150MCE (which will work fine) for $109. There's a PVR500 on Trademe now for $150 which is a good buy because it has dual tuners. Remember though that we get digital TV next year so these cards will probably be redundant then.

And at the risk of rubbing salt in the wound this is why (amongst other reasons) I've been recommending against hybrid cards. That's if you have the luxury of many spare PCI slots of course.

Still though you've got DVB-S and you've got DVB-T (Next year) so that should be about all you'll need.

Couldn't agree more mcraenz... These hybrid cards are a real disappointment. Unfortunately, most motherboards these days seem to only support 2 PCI slots and there are no PCI-e cards out here at the moment. So. the hybrid concept is a good one in theory but without hardware encoding they are just useless for analog MP use.
I have a PVR500 but no more slots for the darned thing! Now that would not be a biggie if the server farm concept in MP actually worked. I have a separate machine that could host the card but getting TVE3 to recognise the extra server and integrate it into the system has not been successful so far. Love to get that working because that looks like a really useful feature of TVE3.
