CAM Module for TechnoTrend S-1500

BACKGROUND:
I've spent the weekend trying to get my TechnoTrend S-1500 card to pick up some Aussie Sat channels using an Aurora card and the optional CAM adaptor. I am using MP v0.2.3 FINAL and the TV_Engin v2 (not the TV-Server). I also have a second DVB-S card in my machine which is a Technisat SkyStar2.

MY PROBLEM:
When the CAM module (holding the Auroracard) is inserted into the CAM adaptor the Technotrend card stops working (that is it stops displaying any channels in MP). If I remove the CAM module and reboot the machine the Technotrend works again. I can test this easily by recording one channel (eg. TV1) then changing channels (eg C4) - when the TT is working I can see the second channel, when its not working (when the CAM is in) I only get a black screen.

So... I'm thinking maybe the CAM module I bought is to blame. I bought this one from the FreeView shop:

If anyone else is using the Technotrend CAM adaptor on this card successfully, what CAM module are you using?

I'm using the latest beta drivers from Technotrend (v5.0.0.2) which are supposed to support the CAM module. I also tried the 4.4.10.18 drivers with the same problem occurring. Any other ideas as to what the problem might be would be greatly appreciated.

I should add that this problem is not related to actually picking up the Optus C1 satellite transmission because I haven't even attempted that part yet - since the card doesn't even work properly before I try to configure that part.

Hey Guys , just i little problem iv started to have
When i watch any thing in full screen the screen goes black, but i still have Audio
I have a feeling iv stuffed somthing up in the settings but i have no idea what

have you tried toggling thru the different Aspect Ratio settings. I had a problem once where if I used the wrong aspect ratio (for example Stretch) the the screen went blank, but if I chose another (like Normal) then it was ok. I'm not sure what the reason for this was though.

Well as you've probably noticed if you've seen my site (links below) that I have almost the exact same setup as you SS2 + TT S1500, But I use TV Server and I use the CAM in this package:

I'm sure that CAM you have should work since I'm sure freeview shop sells it for use with C1

Also I run my card in DVB-T mode see this article I wrote:

Have you tried the card with TVServer?

Not to sound too impressionable, but it's actually no surprise that our systems look very similar... since I'm fairly new to DVB-S setups I basically modeled my current system on yours after reading your guides (back in Oz I had the luxury of full DVB-T coverage)

The more I've thought about this problem since my post yesterday the more I think it is a problem with the CAM module. There are a couple of possibilities:

1. The ribbon cable that came with the Technotrend/CAM module was too short so I replaced it with a longer SCSI cable of the same specifications (50-way ribbon cable) - this may not be arranged exactly the same so I'll have to check.
2. The CAM module may be incompatible (but as you mentioned this seems to be a long shot).

A couple of questions...

When you install the CAM module, is it recognised separately to the actual DVB-S by Windows or MP? Or is it considered to be part of the S-1500 card. What I mean is does it appear as it's own item in Device Manager?

Related to this, if I install the S-1500 (and drivers) first THEN attached the CAM module later, do I get asked for drivers again for the CAM module or is it simply considered part of the original card install?

Hope this isn't too confusing... just trying to work out if the CAM installation is the problem and how it should behave when attached correctly.

WRT what you were asking, I have tried the TV-Server before but had continual problems with stability and issues with the DVB-S cards not working when the system came out of standby - which is why I went back to TV Engine v2.... but you're right, I may need to revisit it to get this working.

WRT the pseudo-DVB-T setup, I was going to try and use a 22MHz switch unit rather than a Diseqc unit to switch between LNB's... do you think configuring the S-1500 as a DVB-T card might still help with this problem? I did notice the TT_MCE_Toolkit on the TT website so I might just try and install it and have a play (if for nothing else other than to see whether my CAM module is working properly).

I'd eliminate this first. Is there no way you can put the cards sidebyside even just while testing?Or even have the case open and the CAM adaptor just hanging off it with the short cable for testing.

Nope it's only seen by (or via) the DVB-S card not by windows.

Yeah you'll just have to have a play with it.

Hi All,

I'm new to the media portal world, but am very impressed with what I have seen so far. I have setup Media Portal + TV Server in a single seat configuration. I have installed a Hauppage HVR4000. I am able to watch the freeview channels, an am very happy.

However, I have two problems:

1. In the TV server config, I do not seem able to find any analogue channels. I'm really only after prime. My actual TV is able to recieve these channels, but the TV server doesn't seem to pick anything up.

Powercinema never worked from day one and in spite of numerous emails and forum requests with Cybermedia and Hauppage and adding the suggested patches etc it still does not work. I even installed XP and power cinema on a clean HDD with no other conflicting software and still nothing.

Media Portal seems to find everything I need, works fine.
Plug un an aerial cable to the card as well as your sat cable and it should work fine.

I'm not from Chch so can't help you there But Welcome! What are your system specs? What card(s) are you using? Maybe just turn down the sensitivity when scanning?

Thanks for the glimmer of hope! Unfortunately, my setup does not seem to be working.

If you don't mind: Did you install the bundled software that came with the HVR4000? Did you install any patches that may have helped? Also, are you using TVEngine v3? [Sorry - just read your system specs, and realised that you are!]
