Haha, just as I was giving up - I seem to have got the analog component of the HVR4000 to work in mediaportal!

I installed the PowerCinema (ver 5.1) that came with the card, and set it up by scanning for stations (something I failed to do previously). PowerCinema picked up the analog channels, but didn't like scanning D1. I didn't play around to try to get satellite working - that wasn't my aim.

Then I closed out of PowerCinema and opened TV Server Config. I enabled the analog portion of the card (I had disabled it because I didn't think I'd be using it), and scanned. It picked up the stations (as it was doing before).

This time, when I previewed the channels, they worked! Maybe someone with a little more know-how can figure out the detail of what is happening here, so that others can implement the same solution. Please find attached my log files from when I preview a channel.

I am able to view + record these channels. Now my only problem is that it has only picked up 1, 2, 3 & C4 - no Prime - the very reason I was interested! I can get those channels of FTA digital!

Cheers

Update: I had to set mediaportal to scan "cable" instead of antenna to get the majority of the channels - juice, prime etc

Ummm, ok I will try this again. So you are saying that PowerCinema provides a codec that allows MP to access AND record the analog channels that can be captured using the analog tuner in the HVR4000?

It's worth a try I guess. Here goes...

Cheers Mike

Well Michael - glad you got this to work, but from where I sit, whilst PowerCinema does receive the analog channels just fine, MediaPortal just reports that no video/audio were present. So, I think I am back to my original position of no analog with MP using the HVR4000.

PS PowerCinema isn't all that bad really. I was pleasantly surprised at that application even though it could not find anything on the Optus D1 satellite. Probably looking at Vertical transponder settings rather than Horizontal.

That's dissapointing. I also have WinTV ver6 installed on this system (downloadable from the Happauge website)

I am also experiencing issues. Randomly (or at least seemingly randomly) my tv service configuration window turned to custard, only displaying the following:

Untitled-4.jpg

So, I rebooted the system, and now the tvservice will not start. When I try to open the configuration window, it tells me tvservice has not started, and asks me whether to start it, but clicking yes doesn't seemt to do anything

I cannot manually start the service using services.msc

Hmmm

I have no idea about these, but here are the logs from when I try to start the service. Can anyone decipher these?

Note: I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version in an attempt to get it working, but it didn't seem to help!

Actually - here I killed any instances of TVsetup.exe and then cleared logs and tried again - this is what I got:

Here is some of the event viewer information/warnings. This pattern repeats itself quite a few times. The most recent is at the top; the earliest is at the bottom...

I'm thinking a clean reinstall of this system, taking it step by step - because this setup is very sketchy, with so many installs/reinstalls etc

Interesting Michael, those logs are showing that a Remoting exception occured in the Sockets class. That can happen if a .NET service is not stopped correctly or if it is stopping when something else is trying to connect to it.

In this case, I would have suggested that a simple reboot would be in order and to wait until you know that the TV Service is running before you start the TV config program.
