Darren, If I read correctly, the current version of MP is probably the last with the built in TV Tuner and TVEngin3 will be the default TV tuner. Its a pretty stable product now and well worth setting up. I would not go back to the inbuilt tuner for anything simply because I can record everything off Freeview with just two tuners at the same time! The fact that I can watch live TV or a recorded program on any computer in the house is a real bonus. Wouldn't be without it now.

The later builds of TVEngine3 also come with a virtual Internet Radio "tuner card" built in which works very well.

Cheers Mike

Hi people,

another Wellingtonian here, currently surviving the big AK.

I redid my home network last weekend and installed media portal on the lounge PC for the first time. Great stuff... I don't know how I ever lived without it!

I'm currently only using it to play (downloaded) tv eps and my mp3 archive, but get the feeling I'm not using it nearly to it's potential so I'm looking at integrating freeview as soon as I can. Any help when that time comes will be greatly appreciated :)

In the mean time I was wondering if anyone has some good Auckland "images" for "My Weather". As interesting as it is to see the satellite default of Germany, a more practical view of NZ or AK would be awesome ;)

Not much more to add for now, just checking in really. When I get some free time I'll try and read back over this whole thread so I don't ask too many dumb questions that have already been covered a thousand times :p

Not as hard as it sounds and I'll try my best to remember how I did it

Start up Media Portal configuration and go down the list to weather. Around there you can change the city to what ever you want.

I'd be more exact except the media pc is not on at the moment. Anyone else with a more accurate description jump in...

Yo :) yes my city is set to Auckland, New Zealand - but further, within My Weather there is a page called "Images" (Satellite/Temperature/UV Index/Winds) and these seem to be additional to just the city config. In Media Portal Configuration "the image location should be entered as a normal http-address." I might go have a search on the MetService website.

Hi thanks heaps for that, I will use those for now, but... they kind of suck, eh? The German one I'm looking at now is "live" - where the TVNZ one is so wide it shows more detail of the Australian east coast than it does NZ and it only updates once every 3 hours??

mike, thanks for the advice, I have got TVE3 working and it looks great from what I can see.

Before I really put it through it's paces, I need to get the remote going. The SkyStar2 card that I bought came with a remote (TTS35) and what looks like 2 IR dongles: one USB, one serial. My comp doesn't have a serial port, so I'm hoping to get the USB IR dongle working. The remote does work with the DVBViewer software which comes with the card, but there is no documentation and I have no clue how to configure the device for MediaPortal. Does anyone have one of these? - I'm hoping that as the SkyStar2 cards are often recommended, there will be some other kiwi who has this worked out.

Cheers,

Darren.

Hi Darren, i think i've used HIP http://www.byremote.com.au/HIP/Default.htm to intercept the remotes signal and then output it as a simulated key press, this was for a friends computer hence the vagueness of my reply, have a play with it and see how you go. The key you need to map it to can be found from the general portion of the config part of Mediaportal.

coina - i know the feeling, i often have to work in a windowless room, can be quite disorientating.

cheers
m
