Bleazle, that's just what I was looking for, thanks. Talk about arcane!
mruane, good advice, I played around with those setting and ended up with LOF1 = 11300, Switch = 0.

So now I've got the DVBViewer working, and the quality looks great. Next step is to get MediaPortal configuration working.
If I click Television -> Capture cards -> <my card> -> Edit -> Autotune, I can configure some of the same settings as per DVBViewer, but not all. For example, I can set LNB0 and switch, DiSEqC = None, LNB = Ku-Band, Tone = None, Satellite = 45.0degreeswest.tpl - but there are no settings for symbolrates, start frequency, end frequency, and stepsize. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Darren

Darren, If you are in New Zealand the first satellite that you want is the Optus D1 bird at 160 E. If your selecting TPL files then you are using the inbuilt TV Engine rather than the new TVEngine3. Looking at the latest TPL for that satellite (160degreesEast.tpl) you will probably not get anything until you add these transponders to the file. Note also that if you are sharing a dish with a SKY STB then none of the V polarisation frequencies will probably work because SKY now use Horizontal. So you could change the V to H on the existing entries and try them in addition to the Freeview frequencies - it wont hurt. I would also change the satname entry so that you can find it easier in the drop down list i.e.

satname=Optus D1 (160E)
12456,H,22500
12483,H,22500

(i.e. Freq, Polarisation, Symbol Rate - note there is no provision for specifying the Forward Error Correction values)

That will get you everything on Freeview. If you then want to add the SKY channels (for EPG purposes - they are encoded so you cannot watch them, you will need to add more frequencies to that list.

That should get you started.

Cheers Mike

Using TVEngine3 you can manually create a channel and the AudioPID and VideoPID values can be entered into the DVB-S tab on the Channel Properties dialog. If the Aussie channels are hiding the PID information then I do not know where you can get that information.

PS What was the Frequency, Symbol Rate, Polarisation and FEC for the Aussie channels?

    Cheers Mike

Great, thanks. Unfortunately I share a Sat dish with a SKY STB so I am stuck with only Horizontal polarisation. Pity.

For DVB-T you plug in the antenna cable into the standard antenna socket on the back of the HVR4000 not the screw thread Satellite socket. DVB-T shares the tuner with Analog so it gets its input from the standard UHF socket.

The frequencies you tune are defined in the DVBT.XML file. It depends on where you are for the actual frequences. In my case I use Kaukau in Wellington.

Thanks Mike. I have made those changes to the .tpl file, and when I autotune in MP configuration I can see that it's scanning those 2 frequencies (and has picked up the 'Optus D1' satname from the file) - but I still don't get any channels. The 'signal strength' and 'signal quality' meters on the autotune tab don't register anything at all. I assume the channels should appear in the 'TV channels' list after the scan? Anything else I should be looking at?
    Thanks, Darren.

Darren, unfortunately I do not use TVE2 (i.e. the built in TV Tuner), so I am not familiar with the setup options in TVE2 and I know the setup is different to TVE3. Why not download TVEngine3 and try that.

Also review McRae's site at http://mcraenz.googlepages.com/ he has a lot of information there about configuration of TVE3. TVE3 is a pretty useful addition to Media Portal because it allows client mode on any other PC on your network, plus it allows you to record multiple channels from the same transponder with just one tuner. You might find that you can get the whole thing up and running much faster because of the support available for TVE3 (eg the pages McRae produced and others).

Give it a go, I'm certain you will prefer it.

Handya: I have my DVB-T Antenna feed going through a couple of splitters and through a SKY STB so yes a standard UHF splitter should not be a problem. Remember that each splitter introduces about 3-5db of loss so eventually you may need a signal amplifier if you split too many times. However one splitter should not be a problem.

    Cheers Mike

mike: Understood, I'll give TVE3 a try. I was going to get there eventually, just thought it would be easier to get TVE2 going first (no client-server issues to worry about) - but if there's more support for, or usage of, TVE3 then I'll get stuck into that.
    Much appreciated,
    Darren.
