alright, i've tried getting sky to work via media portal and so far i haven't had much success (although the internet has only just been connected today so that might change things.)
from what i've gathered so far though, to get sky digital and free view channels to work via media portal i'm going to need to get another DVB-S card.
at the moment though i'd be happy if i could just get sky to work via media portal (cause man sky has one ugly interface now that i've had MP experience) and freeview can wait for a week whilst i scrape some coin together.
my question is for sky to work via media portal should i just take the cable from the RF out (in the sky decoder) and attach that to the DVB-S input of the hauppauge (the rf out is a standard analogue socket, so i would have to chop off the other end of the cable and put on an h-type connector). So far i've tried taking the cable from RF out to Analogue and had 0 success scanning channels.
if pictures would help let me know.
thanks.
@Omen: No RF out and DVB-S are very different. DVB-S can only be connected to a dish. Also you cannot receive sky directly from the dish in to the DVB-S card. this is becuase the of the encryption sky uses can only be decoded using the sky digital STB. DVB-S can only be used to receive freeview.
To get sky in to mediaportal you need to take the video output (preferably s-video) output from the sky STB and run that in to an analog card. (preferably a Hauppaug PVR-150). Your dvb-s card (what model?) may have an aux analog s-video input but it's probaly not that good because it will not do hardware (MPEG2) compression like that PRV-150 will.
Once you have the sky stb connected to an analog video/audio input on your mediaprotal PC you need a way for mediaportal to change channels on the sky stb. This is where infra-red blaster comes in. They come with microsoft MCE remotes and also with some Hauppauge PVR-150 bundles.
Hope this helps.
Ok I created the two missing columns I had in the database by hand and that has made an improvement. Now the channels appear normally when I select TV Channels.
Geekiegeek, I use a DVB-S card for everything now and I have the tuning parameters, but thanks for responding with them. I am sure my problem was the failure to update the database with the new structure as Mcraenz suggested.
Now to get the client working again. What caused me to upgrade was the lack of EPG. My EPG was being loaded normally until yesterday when it just stopped.
Cheers Mike
@mruane: If I were you I'd delete the database, un-install and re-install TV3 and let it re-create the DB just to be sure everythign is as it should be. (maybe don't bother unless you have any issues??)
Also update to the latest SVN(15972) there seem to be some important fixes for the heartbeat stuff.
