Hi,

This seems to fix a lot of trauble. I replaced, in the lines discribed above, my computername with the IP adress of the TV server and a lot of thing are running better. Channel changes are now faster, the message " connection lost with server" istn't there anymore ( 3 days now since i changed to ip, it was occuring sometimes dayly) also tv guide is running better.

:D

    Hi again RLinSweden,

This is still not working for me SIGH! I edited the Gentle.config in both MediaPortal and TVServer, removed my computer name from my hosts file. I don't have a client so did not need to do that one.

When I started up TV in MP I got the same old message: "Please specify the IP address or host name of the master TV Service. Current Setting: [computername]" So I changed computer name to the IP Address. TV would still not start, instead I got the message "Connection to TVServer lost" and TV freezes MP. In the error.log in TV Server: "RemoteControl - Error checking connection state"

I assume I enter the IP address for my Router that I use to access Internet? IPConfig shows that as 192.168.1.2 so that is what I entered in both gentle.config files!

One odd thing - after changing to the ip address, the ip streaming address in TVServer changed to IPV6: fe80::8e9:c72:3f57:fefd%12

Any ideas? Thanks! Don't forget I am using SQLServer not MySQL.

EDIT: Now I starting getting all kinds of System.Net.Sockets.Socket.Connect(IPAddress[] errors, so I am attaching the error.log file. Something is still looking for 127.0.0.1!

Can't connect to TVserver and Database

    Hi again Dadeo,

Sorry I don't know much about your configuration, but it looks like you are using an loopback.
I had that before but inactivated it and went for what I described. It was easier for me and it also worked.

    Living is not allways easy

I was not using loopback before, my router just uses 192.168.1.2 (not 192.168.2.1 like loopback). I just installed loopback and I still get the "RemoteControl - Error checking connection state". Back to the hosts fix I guess!

EDIT: Can I use any fixed IP Address for TV Server or does it have to be the address of my router?

    Dadeo,

If you have a single seat setup ( like I do) just enter the IP of your machine, instead of the computer name.
I don't use any loopback software, it just worked.
    Use static ip!
    Hope this helps.

Thanks Wijnand, I do have single seat setup. How do I tell which is the IP of my machine? My router ID is 192.168.1.1 (at least that is what I enter to access it directly). IPConfig shows my Lan connection as 192.168.1.2 with gateway of 192.168.1.1 and my IP address is dynamically set by my ISP. I also use NAT in my router, but I have seen nothing that says I need to open any ports, or which ports to open.

I did try entering 192.168.1.2 instead of computer name, but just got the same error.

Strange, your entered IP should be ok, when resloved with ipconfig.. Is there someting looping back still? I understand that you installed software for that? Is this proper removed or disabled?
In the past I "broke" a mediaportal installation bij changing my system ip. It was quicker to install MP again than to find out all the problems. Is this an option?

Is there someting looping back still?
How would I know? LOL! Seriously though, IP Config only shows my LAN IP address and a couple Tunnel Adapters which IPV6 creates I believe. So I tried IPConfig/all and it shows the following as well:
    Code:
    Windows IP Configuration

       Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : [Computername]
       Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
       Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
       IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
       WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Dunno what that is or if it helps.

Are you using SQLServer or MySQL?

I like the concept of loopback adaptor - so TV works even when my internet is down (which is all too often!), but I am not married to it :)

Thanks for all the help guys. I would really like to remove my computername from localhost in Hosts!

EDIT: Yes I have thought of reinstalling MP, but I did try that before when I upgraded to 1.0.2 and it did not help. Right now I am in skin development so it is not easy to do atm.

    had a similar problem

I had first five clients connected to my server.. after a while three could not connect any longer..

I always got the dialog to enter hostname or ip address of server...

fix for the problem was to ad name and ip-address to the hosts file in

    c:\windows\system32

after that everything was running like a charm

    cheers
