Do PC's HDMI ports have some hardware missing that would allow them to use CEC with them
Not a single PC graphics board available today has CEC abilities. That's why this USB box is needed. Some Intel Mainboards with HDMI output has a header to connect a special CEC module. This Module is available from Pulse Eight also and is nearly the same as the generic USB module...

OK, I'm just confused why PC HDMI ports can't do CEC. Does the PCI-E bus just not allow them to forward the incoming signals to the PC to process, or receive signals from the CPU to send out over the HDMI?

    Hi there,

You do not need a spare HDMI on the TV... The adapter plugs inline with the AVR or TV HDMI cable.

I believe none of the video card manufacturers have implemented the CEC hardware (although I could be wrong) :(

A buddy of mine got himself a Raspberry PI (running some XBMC build) and it has built in CEC. Maybe the big boys, like NVIDIA and ATI will catch on soon enough. ;)

Oh I see, thanks for clarifying. The picture on their website only shows one HDMI socket so it's not obvious from there that the graphics card plugs into it and then it goes to the TV.[DOUBLEPOST=1375733642][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah, I've got a couple of RPis and the CEC works well on my Dad's Samsung TV.

For the price of this adapter, I could buy another RPi so I think I'll just manage with using two remotes ;)

libCEC application crashes almost instantly, because of that (I think) I can't control the volume of AVR from MP.
I upgraded the firmware to v4, tried both v2.1.1 and 2.1.3 the result is the same, just crashes at different stages when running libCEC application.

    Any ideas?

Do you mean the Pulse-Eight libcec-tray? If you have 64bit windows try installing this -> http://packages.pulse-eight.net/windows/vcredist_x64.exe
They also have support forum http://forums.pulse-eight.com/

However, if you want to use this plugin, you need to disable all other applications that use the CEC-adapter, including the P8 libcec-tray.
