I'm a software developer myself and I understand that a change like this would mean deep changes in the code. Perhaps I will take a look into the code and see if a patch can be made.

Edit: Now that I think of it, will this same behaviour happen with MP2?

As you say, these are *very* deep changes to our model, and I expect it would be quite a tough job to do properly.
If you're thinking of submitting the patch for approval, please consider...
From a usability perspective, there are precious few people who would benefit from such a change.
In fact, the change may confuse a lot of people as currently there is not really a visible concept of "tuning details" (as distinct from channels) in TV Server configuration or MediaPortal.
So the team may have a hard time accepting such a patch on those grounds.
However, don't let that stop you making the patch for yourself!

Edit: Now that I think of it, will this same behaviour happen with MP2?

The MP2 project is focussed on the MediaPortal client, not the TV Server backend.
At this stage it is planned that MP2 would reuse the existing TV Server (with a few changes)... so the short answer is yes.
