You can un-register the codecs from the system using regsvr32 /u, but I simply uninstalled MP and reinstalled it without selecting the MPA/MPV codecs to be installed with it.

I've been using the Purevideo codecs for several days now without any stutters. Picture quality is quite good too - but I have found one issue so far that is going to force me to revert back to the MPV codec.

When fast forwarding with the Purevideo codec, the system will not show the frames as you're fast forwarding. this makes looking for the beginning of a show when fast forwarding very difficult. It may just be my hardware, as my videocard and CPU are relatively modest, so this may not be an issue for some.

I'm experiencing the same sort of stuttering, but only with the tvserver (I suppose it is the .ts streams). nVidia Codecs did not help in my case.

It seems that my problem is connected to the signal quality during recording. There are some channels where I don't get any stuttering at all and there are others where I get stuttering sometimes.

I get the "playing->repaint x" messages in the logs whenever it stutters. This is definitely not a performance issue, as my TV is working fine otherwise and the load is far from critical. I also followed all the hints in the "stuttering troubleshooting" guide by diehard2.

The odd thing is, though, that even with those stuttering recordings (they always stutter in the same places), I get flawless playback in VLC, so it is not that the data is not there, but somehow VLC seems to interpret it better than MP.

A big :D to all the developers, again!

    Hmmm,

I wonder if its the recordings and VLC is just able to deal with bad data?

Anyhow reason I haven't replied for a couple of days is because I just bought a new motherboard (top of the range Asus A8n32 SLI Delux) for £56 :)), as having changed the graphics card I suspect its to do with USB2, either the tuners themselves (but I have both the dual nova-t and divco dual 4, and they both stutter), or the motherboard not being good enough.

Once I've installed my new mobo I'll repost, with results, if that doesn't work I'll get shot of the USB tuners and go for the dual Pinnacle tuner.

All I can say is thank god for Ebay! Its also worth noting that I think one persons solution won't be the same for the next person!

It's a complex issue. When I had only the PVR 350 I never had stutter. When I added the Hauppauge HVR 900 sometimes I had stutter even when only using the PVR 350. Now that I only have the Pinnacle PCTV Dual DVB-T I don't have stutter. However I've been testing different audio codecs and it's possible that DScaler Audio causes some stutter on my system (I have to confirm this).

From what I learned, I think that USB2 tuners are more prone to stuttering, but I don't know the reason. With some codecs things get worse. Maybe the USB I/O bus is unable to keep the data flowing smoothly without interruptions. Also weak signal causes stutter on DVB tuners, as the video codec may receive damaged mpeg2 frames.

Well, where do I start, in summary,

I upgraded the GPU to a 7600GS - No difference, didn't solve my problem
I upgraded the mobo to a A8n32 Delus - No difference, didn't solve my problem
I had a proper survey on my aerial - Technician reported I a +60db signal on the worst channel in my area

Then I bought a Pinnacle Dual PCTV card, and it WORKS! fixed the problem straight away!

So for some reason, USB tuners (Nova-t 500 & Dvico Dual 4) simply don't work for me!

Maybe it would be a good idea to put sticky thread with a warning about possible stuttering with USB tuners. Or at least in the Wiki, where the compatible tuners are listed. I've seen several reports with this same problem. Although it doesn't happen for everybody, it's common enough as to make sense to post a warning.

Just out of interest I also notice that both the Dvico Dual 4 and Nova-t 500 use the VIA VT6212L USB2 chip, perhaps it can be more closley linked to that specific chip.

Anyhow, been running for a week with the Pinnacle with no problems at all :)

Here it's also working flawless :) . Even after weeks without rebooting my HTPC (only hibernating when not in use).

But I have verified that if I use the DScaler Audio Codec, after some time I get stutter. This doesn't happen if I use MPA or ffdshow for the audio codec.
