Hi,

I want to use my satellite box in MediaPortal, but how do you guys connect it to your MediaCenter??
Do I need a special card or?

Thanks a lot.

To receive satellite using your STB, you just need an analogue capture card, the Hauppauge PVR family is very popular as they are hardware MPEG-2 capture and produce pretty high quality encodes. The STB is then controlled using IR senders or blasters.

If the satellite box is generic and not locked to a particular provider, you can replace it with a DVB-S card with a CI slot and the appropriate CAM for your subscription card. This isn't so easy as there are lots of variables in getting it working, but it can usually be done. This gives you the benefit of being able to record the native digital streams without re-encoding and often an other the air EPG. Just like the STB.

Okay thanks a lot for your reply.

So basically I just take the cable from the dish and hook to the TV tuner??
