To be honest, at first I thought I could see a difference with the fast channel changing, but then eventually I was not so convinced..
Anyway now I have rolled back the fast channel change ain't an option!

I bit the bullet today and upgraded to 1.2.2 to get the fast changes - pretty gutted that this required me to fully setup mediaportal again due to the 'failed to update database' error, but there we go. While I was doing it, I also installed 'Mdapi Plus' which is apparently faster and more stable than the 2009 Mdapi, so I'm not sure how much any changes can be attributed to that.
Anyway, using a reasonably powerful HTPC with a TBS 6981 and an SSD, the majority of my changes are now very nearly instant including FTA to encrypt, encrypt to encrypt, etc etc
A few changes still take upto 3 seconds, but there seems to be no rule as to what causes these slower changes, and they are very much in the minority!DJBlu's version also does channel scanning by region and sorts the categories. It also automatically adds any new channels and removes any defunct channels.
There are some other changes too, like the TBS fast channel code..
Whilst talking about it, a question for DJBlu - would it be possible in a future version to add a tickbox to have channels sorted by name? I don't use channel numbers, so have them alphabetically which I do when I first set it up, however any new channels get added to the bottom of the list.

The fast change code won't speed up channel changes across the board, only dvbs2 channel changes will be quicker
The card would always attempt dvbs prior to dvbs2, now it can call dvbs or dvbs2 depending on the channel.
Ie going from bbc2 to channel 4 hd will be approx 2 seconds faster then without mod
