@Owlsroost: First of all: thank you for your effort! And sorry for answering so late as I was trying different things and
    didn't have much time anyway.

After mp 1.9 got released I set up my system completely new and again tried various combinations of all
the things that have to do with a smooth playback, as there are:
-default refresh rate of both displays (I'm using a second display for running mpd++ on it which might be the root of all my problems)
-cross changed the graphic card for pri/sec display to see (now the HD 5450 runs the pri and the HD2000 the sec display)
    -mp dynamic refresh rate settings
-codecs for video as for audio
Now I have found a combination where the playback is much better.
It still shows dropouts but much less than before. However it is at a level I could live with.
Of course I would do everything to get it running comletely smooth.
Unfortunately the symptoms have now changed a bit.
Because now the sound is not being interrupted but the picture stops for a blink of an eye every couple of minutes.
As if the sound would be the faster of both now...

and I don't understand why you don't have this problem with SD TV
And despite the fact that I said it would only be with sd channels I now have to revise that. It hasn't been only with sd befor and
even now it is as well with hd channels.
As I am a bit in a hurry at the moment I will try your tsreader later this afternoon but thank you so much so far!

    Thanks @Owlsroost ,

I do use UNC path mode. My first attempt with your patches was with both buffer (100 ms) and SlowPlay (100 ppm) activated, but the result was catastrophic. What was a short hick-up before turned into a major 2 second picture and audio interruption then. That's when I set the buffer back to zero and ran with SlowPlay only.

It really looks as if things have become much better. Since tsreader determines any asynchronous data, could you imagine a tool, which would actually measure the lagging and suggests/sets values for these two parameters?

    Cheers,

Just exchanged the tsreader and as I first impression I must say: great work! Everything without any stutter so far...

I'm thinking about ways to automatically adjust 'SlowPlay' dynamically, but it's not as easy as it sounds....

    Thanks for the testing (y)

    2. You can force TsReader to buffer more data automatically by changing this registry setting:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team MediaPortal\TsReader, set "BufferingDelayInMilliSeconds" to a (decimal) value in milliseconds (range is 0 to 2000, default is 0). Note - this will add delay to live TV channel changes since it needs to build up the buffer before play starts.

I suggest to create an option in configure.exe on advanced options tab.

I tried different slow play values and it seems as between 200 and 250 does the best for me.
Are you interested in logs when I have come to a final setting?

    Hi,
I'd be interested in the logs for that situation please.
I set both parameters to 100 each and switched to a 720p channel (Das Erste). To my surprise there was no visible/audible hick-up during more than 10 minutes. I then changed channels at ca. 20:15 to a 1080i show (Fox HD, encrypted) - this time it took only a few seconds until there was a complete stop of both sound and picture, the latter being literally frozen for a couple of seconds before TV resumed again on its own.

Logs were collected at this point. As the encrypted channels play mostly normal with Buffer = 0, I wonder what is causing this. With SlowPlay = 100 I have much better results and I will ty to fine-tune this for further improvement.

I'm thinking about ways to automatically adjust 'SlowPlay' dynamically, but it's not as easy as it sounds....
    Looking forward to the result

You said earlier that you were using UNC paths - in the TsReader log it's using RTSP, so you need to check your settings:

    Code:
    [2014-10-20 20:05:35,990] [2ad11b98-1] [ 498] - open rtsp://SERVER.KANELLA.local:554/stream3.0, isTimeshift:1, isUNC:0

Next, when the long pause happens it's because TsReader is receiving junk:

    Code:
    [2014-10-20 20:15:52,268] [2ad11b98-1] [1144] - Demux : Video to render 1.051 Sec

...those '0-0-1 fail' messages are usually due to decryption failures, but basically mean TsReader can't make sense of the data it's receiving so it has to discard it. Note you also have some of these messages in other parts of the log as well. I don't think this problem is due to the change in the 'BufferDelay' settings etc. (but I could be wrong).

Try it with UNC paths..... :)

    @Owlsroost ,

You're right. I must have deactivated the UNC some ten days ago while testing and then forgot to put the tick back in. It's on now and I will have to repeat the test. However, as I wrote earlier the junk received is dependent on the 100/100 combination. What you saw did not happen with buffer set to 0, at least to a much lesser extent. But I will provide new logs.
