Ok, i've thought about his a bit...

lets say we aussies start grabbing foxtel pages en masse (ignoring copyright for a moment)

Foxtel will notice the increase in traffic (maybe they read this forum anyway...i would)

Foxtel will have the IP address of all the naughty copyright infringers.

a better option would be :

one single person in a foreign country grabs the data and makes it available to the users who want it. There would be no discernable increase in foxtel web traffic, and no way of knowing how many people are leeching their data.

I feel that given the length they went to obfuscate (not encrypt) the current web pages, they are fairly serious about not letting the data out. If we start d/l the guide, they will change the way it's done, maybe to something that's a little harder to decode. then we're potentially screwed...

Are we the only country that prevents users from getting guide data?

It is very irritating that Australian television guide sources are so restrictive. I don't even see the angle, if I were a television provider I would want to make it easier for people to find information about my programming and thus watch my channel. I don't believe that providing such data would impact hugely on sales of their own guides (it is a lot easier, I find, to read a guide on paper than electronically) and even if it did, how much would this really effect their core business. They sell television, not magazines.

I don't need a foxtel guide anyway (had Optus and Foxtel pay TV at various times and it has never been worth the subscription fee, in fact the only reason we ever got pay TV was because of poor analogue reception, which has been entirely fixed with digital broadcasting) but even getting free to air channels is not easy.

I think grabbing the information from the OzTivo wiki is the best solution in the long term as there are no limits on grabbing data and the data there is very detailed (descriptions, genres, etc) when compared to what I can manage to grab from Yahoo.

Hahaha.. So true.. so true..

remember the old days of G-CODE with VCRs?

Nowadays ppl have their PVR that need an EPG to preset recording...

The G-CODE was freely available... so why not the EPG data?

I must say this one works very well, easy to setup. Very complete channel info with full program descriptions.

    G'day,

A colleague of mine put me onto Tugg and it was working great for a couple of weeks.

However, it seems that for the last week, some channels are repeating content from the day before. It seems to be that Seven, Nine and SBS News are getting the same schedule for every day. The first days data is correct, but the subsequent days are repeats of the first (in the XML file).

Any ideas? I was wrapped when I first started using it, cause it's the best one I've used yet.

    Cheers,
    Downzy

I'm probably the only person in Australia using MP to experience this; but I pick up both NSW and QLD stations - meaning during daylight savings I have the benefit of having an hour difference and some different programs on QLD and not NSW and vise-versa.

Anyway, does this one support having multiple sets of FTA channels?

    Hi RolandDeschain,

A few sites have different names for channels in QLD and NSW. Not sure if they have different timezones (but it would make sense).

Otherwise, WebEPG has support for timezones. So you can make a copy of the configuration file and set each to a different timezone.

If you need more help let me know.

    /James

I use TUGG and I have just checked my EPG and it looks OK. I did a grab on Thursday morning for 6 days (out to next Tuesday), and it looks OK for all Melbourne stations.

Have you tried deleting the Tvguide.xml file and running TUGG again?

Downzy's problem has been solved. He was using an old version and the new version does not suffer the problem he had.
