Further testing with core v7:

With TVWishList disabled, MP still locked up first time I tried to start TV

With Codec set to Microsoft DTV, MP started TV OK the first time, then locked up when I tried to start playing a recording

Running in Debug Mode, I couldn't get it to lock up flipping between TV and playing recordings

Running normally, with most third-party plugins disabled, I couldn't get it to lock up either.

Starting TV does seem to be rather slower than with the standard core.dll though, although I might be imagining it

So now I guess I need to try and track down which plugin is being the problem.

OK, with MovingPictures, TVSeries, OnlineVideos, InfoService and IMDB+ re-enabled and codec set back to Cyberlink, MP crashed going from TV to playing a recording.

With the same plugins I tested again (thought I'd changed codec to MS DTV but MP Config crashed and confused me, so I accidentally changed the Video codec, not the TV one, so this test was still with Cyberlink codec!), I went from TV->Recording OK and then accidentally tried to tune to BBC3 (not transmitting) and I had a blank screen for a while but eventually it dumped me back to the EPG. However, after this I was stuck with the progress bar moving in the middle of the screen and although I could start TV or play a recording, I only got sound and a blank screen!

Then I tried disabling OnlineVideos, InfoService and IMDB+ and tested again with Cyberlink codec and couldn't get it to crash, although a couple of times when on the TV menu, before going to Recordings to play one, TV just stopped by itself which was weird.

Then I re-enabled OnlineVideos and IMDB+ and managed to get it to lock up going from TV->playing a recording (it worked OK about 4-5 times).

Then I disabled OnlineVideos again, still it crashed.

Then I disabled IMDB+ again and couldn't get MP to crash, so it seems that there's some problem between that and your patch.

Can you try also if it's really related to IMDB+ (i don't why) can you try a lot with it disable and enable ?

It's surely true, because i connect manually filter between them.

Effectively here, we have some :
[ERROR][MPMain(1)]: PlayerFactory: Error creating player instance - Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

Then I disabled IMDB+ again and couldn't get MP to crash, so it seems that there's some problem between that and your patch.

I'll try v8. I've just had another problem going from E4 to BBC1 (which is recording) with v7 (IMDB+ still disabled) though. I tried Play Recording and Play Live and just got black screen, or after a while error "Could not find channel". I got it working eventually somehow!

I'm afraid v8 seems worse. MP locked up going from BBC1 to E4 this time (wasn't locking up in my last test with v7, just behaving wierdly/not tuning in and then erroring).

Could the v0084_part_DWM dshowhelper I'm using be causing issues with your patch?

I don't want to sound rude or ungrateful for all the work you're doing on your patch, but I was wondering if there's an easier way just to patch MP to simply change the subtitles to default off instead of default on? I think your patch is perhaps more complicated than that, as you're also removing the CC selection.

Maybe that's not as easy as it sounds though I certainly don't pretend to understand what goes on 'under the hood'

Sure and i didn't get this wrong lol, Smeulf doing a patch for that and i take it to put in my patch, i will post binaries to see how is handle on your side.
But if you are ok i would like to continu with you and my patch because even if i didn't see like you, i'm pretty sure that it will happen for other.

Could you also try with original dshowhelper ?
In fact Core v8 is the same as v7 just change in logging line. This is really strange !!! when MP locked up IMDB+ was disable ?
Will look into log too.
