I also dont see Video or hear Audio. I know at one point in time it did work, just had a problem not being able to get out of the DVD (Kept looping the menu). Whilst trying to resolve that issue along with others I have completely broken it.

The log doesnt give any clues either. My Media Portal on another machine works fine.

Im using 18x Sony DVDRW (SATA) if that is any constellation.

Ive tried enabling/disabling Max Speed but that doesnt work. Ive remove Daemon Tools in case it was getting confused. Ive tried playing the DVD from the 'Play DVD' plugin as well as from My Videos. Ive tried changing Codecs...all to no avail.

I've got that reported from several users now.
Some of our testers tried it and it works like a charm for them.
So it might be related to Drive / firmware whatever.
It seems that only DVD playback is affected tough. Audio CD works well.

I'll change the setup to allow 2 different sections for CD and DVD and also introduce a flag to disable the speed change for CD or DVD.
This should give you the maximum control over it.

It's a setting in mediaportal setup utility, under general if I remeber correctly. The setting came with 0.2.3.0 RC1, but has probably been in SVN releases long time before that.

When I enable this setting my DVD playback started behaving like explained in the thread, so I disabled it again and DVD playback resumed normal function.

Hmmm, the disc does appear to stop spinning when the screen goes black, so maybe this is the problem. However, I can't find the "max spin speed" option anywhere in MediaPortal set-up? I'm sure it's right there under my nose, but I'll be damned if I can find it!

    That would be much appreciated!

Thanks a lot, will install and report back. Is it possible to add some more logging to DEBUG to see whats going on?

The CD spin speed option appears in the new version, but this doesn't fix the DVD play problem for me - still just get a black screen. I appreciate the effort nonetheless!

I have got the exact same problem with DVD video files (as in ripped from DVD). So it is not related to the DVD drive speed, but something with DVD in general. Its pretty annoying. What even more surprises me is that some DVD's DO work, and others dont.

Yes, I tested this as well. I get the same blank screen and no audio when playing a regular DVD and on ones that were Decrypted to HDD.

    A problem that I recognized:
Some DVDs lead to the problem that they start normally, but with a black screen . Thereby it doesn't matter if there are trailers at the start or if it starts directly with the menu. Sound does work. If you now skip to the next chapter the picture is correctly shown (it also shows the main menu then it hadn't shown before).

An alternative way to get the picture shown:
    1) Start DVD
    2) Kill MP via Alt+F4
    3) Start MP again
    4) Continue DVD-playback from previous position

So it seems to be a kind of init-problem of the video in my eyes.

    best regards
    G.B.
