DVD playback issue. (1 Viewer)

Yeah,

I also get black screen and silence when trying to play DVDs with latest tveng 3 and mp SVC.
Pretty annoying.

I just updated MP and TV-engine 3.0 to 02.09.2007 versions. Updated display drivers, re-installed direct-x 9.0c, but still DVD playback shows black screen with audio playing.

Powerdvd plays DVDs just fine.

I think this should get top priority, instead of fixing minor bugs and adding small expansions and addons...
As I look at this thread, a lot of people have this problem.
And the way I see it a media application that cannot play DVD's can hardly be called a media application/center/portal, right?

I would like this to work again as I used to watch all my DVDs in bed using my mediaportal setup there, but now I can't watch any dvds via that solution.

@Activ: what is EVR? ...how do I turn in off and what should I use instead?

EVR is the rendering system used by Vista, it's available in the latest betas.

Alternative DVD-player

Hi,

If the MP included DVD-player does not work anymore, what would be best external player?
So the one which would best integrate with remote control (hauppauge) commands?

I think that DVD playback problems are coming from some issues with Directx 9 and ATI graphics cards.
I have ATI Radeon 9250 and I also had same problems with laptop with ATI Radeon mobility card in it.

I have the latest ATI drivers installed (they are from 3.5.2006, version 6.14.0010.6614). The DrirectX
is of version 9.0C (4.09.0000.0904).

There are not many DirectX options to try in the MediaPortal, but I think that DirectX version used
was changed in 0.2.3RC1. Older MP used older DirectX and had no problems.

When DVD is played, I see the initial language menu and warning for copy protection (I guess these are
just jpg-images), but when movie starts, I get only audio.

I have experienced few time problems watching DVB-T TV-programs when TV image gets stuck, but audio is ok.
Perhaps same problem as with DVD playback??

So, question to other people having DVD playback problems: Do you have ATI graphics card?

I went nad installed Ati Radeon Omega drivers 3.8.252 in order to resolve this playback problem.

Perhaps it fixed some or not, however I noticed that if I get this problem (blank screen but audio), I can get around it by stopping and then continuing the play. So pressing stop and then going back to play DVD and select yes to continue. Then the video works fine. Whatever the problem is here, it seems like somthing that could be fixed.

Only one person uploaded logs which makes it hard to look at this. Could everyone who is having this problem please write in their next message the decoders they are using, their video card, video driver version, and attach their log files. On inserting a DVD I get a black screen and nothing more. Pressing stop takes me back to the home screen.
