Just let me know if there is any other testing I can do on this that would be useful.
Thanks jawbroken - I think you have confirmed that this is a bug in MediaPortal. I will see if I can get it logged in Mantis, and I may ask you to do some more testing later to assist the Developers with finding the cause.....

The 9->10 was just a control, so yes, it should (and did) work fine.

I am 95% sure that it was using the same card.

Okay, I found the log file backup, in recorder.log:

    16/03/2006 6:11:27 PM Recorder: time to record 'The Simpsons' on channel:TEN from 6:00:00 PM-6:30:00 PM id:12 priority:2147483644 quality:NotSet Once

So it seems that yes, this was the same card. Maybe the 8 seconds between stopping one and starting the other is enough, or the channel changing is done differently when recording and not watching.

I expected it to fail as well. When you try this while recording does it work?

I got all excited when I saw this entry in the CVS log file:-

MediaPortal mytv: On 17/03/2006 [18:40:10] _Frodo_ added the following change: fixed zap between tvchannels with ac3 and mpg2 audio

but I have just tried the latest CVS (03-18-2006--01-02) and the problem is still there for me....:(

In the following testing, I was watching ABC which has both MPEG2 & AC3 sound and I changed channel to Seven, which only has MPEG2 sound. Notice the bolded lines...

It is still the same error as in earlier CVS's.

I guess it could be argued that this is a problem with the Dvico BDA drivers, but given the wide use of Dvico cards with Windows MCE, I would be surprised if it was due to their drivers and they haven't fixed it yet....

All the testing that I have done today is on a completely fresh install (from a disk re-format) of Windows XP and MediaPortal, with all the very latest drivers of everything. I did this to be sure that there was nothing else that could be the cause....:)

Yes, it does - I just did a test with 2 back-to-back recordings (2 minutes apart) with the first recording on Channel 9 and the second recording on Channel 7, and it worked fine.

So it looks like this problem only occurs when watching TV and "zapping" between channels.

I have a similar problem with mine; I had this problem with every channel. MP starts on channel 7, then whatever channel I change to causes black screens on the tv display, and I have to shut down the mp process manually.
    Odd behavior when changing channels....

INTERESTING NEWS!!! While playing around with graphedit using the very educational page here: https://www.team-mediaportal.com/mpwiki/Add_TVCard_to_natively_supported_list

I discovered that when rendering the output pin from the first tuner (non USB), there didnt seem to be as many filters. When rendering the second bluebird tuner (usb) there seemed to be the complete and correct number of filters attached. Curious, I entered mediaportal setup and re added the 2 tuners.

The first tuner gave the 'unable to create graph for this device!!' error, while the second one came up fine (can't remember if this was the case before). The second bluebird tuner was added with no complaints. I deleted the on board tuner so that MP would use the usb tuner by default, and saved the config.

Booted up mp...started tv...CAN CHANGE CHANNELS NO WORRIES! Please someone else (hopefully a dev) try and confirm this.

I still experience HEAVY (100%) cpu usage on the 'select tv channel' menu. This should probably be looked at.

    What do you think?

Update: after messing about with the different available audio and video renderers in an attempt to get on board decoding to work (GF 6150) I seem to have broken things again :(

Umm, still seems broken for me

I think you are experiencing a different problem - with the issue posted here, you should be able to change between channels with the same audio stream type, but MP will hang when trying to change to a channel with the other type.

Your description sounds like you can't change channels at all? Is that correct?
