This is really great!!!

I will not install plugins/skins if they doesn't support MPEI :)

I got 2 ideas/questions:
1.
Will it be possible to have a list of supported plugins/skins? a little like app store?
Im thinking of two views. one with only plugins/skins support by my setup (MP version, skin etc.) and one with not support plugins, so I can see which updates I need to do before I can use a specifik plugin/skin

2.
Let say I use a plugin which is very popular but I want to install a skin which does not support this plugin (yet). Then it would be cool with a kind of suggest button which counts how many users there would like this addition and the skin developer use this as a help for priority and awairness of a new plugin?

Just some thought you can think about :)

Keep up the good work!

SpudR: I haven't used it yet and will not if the developers don't use this installer.

In my world flexibility and performance is everything. Progams should be self thinking as much as posible.

MP should not be for nerds but for all people including my parents which are not computer people. Try explain them where they find these plugins and how they install them... It WILL go wrong.
It shouldn't be harder than telling them "Go to Plugin Managaer, Choose the plugin, Choose Install, and thats it" :)

You'll be trying to live without MovingPictures AND MyTVSeries then ;)
Life's going to be pretty tough...!

I'm sure your comments are based on reality, but let's not give up hope before we get started. Dukus has given us a great tool to start with, and I personally hope that many plugins and skins try it and give Dukus feedback on it. I don't think the Moving Pictures or TV Series developers are that closed minded. If we can create a tool worth using, that does what Get Well suggests, or even better, checks compatibility between the plugin and MP version, then I would think all our developers will be ecstatic to use such a tool.

The most important point in my mind is that we figure out the best way to do this now, so that we can implement a great way to update skins and plugins in MP 2 and never have to deal with incompatibility or uninstall issues again!

For such people I wouldn't ever install a PC in a living room? Why? It will need almost constant maintenance. HTPCs are a hobby, not a replacement for a settop box and DVD player. "Normal" people wont get the benefit from HTPC, only the downsides what is always included in more complex devices. Just keep the living room simple and not use wrong tools in a wrong place.

Tourettes I think Get Well only meant to appreciate the progress we have made with MPEI and the hope that one day MP will be more accessible and user friendly.

I myself do not have an HTPC in my living room and never will. Once I have set up MP, which I agree is still complex, I spend less time maintaining it than I do on Windows! Most 'normal' people as you call them cannot set up their own PC or configure Windows, drivers, etc. either, but I don't think I would call Windows a hobby! MP is not a hobby for me, it is an essential part of my life/entertainment. I use it many hours daily. I love trying new plugins and skins, and the only problem I have is figuring out the compatibility between them and MP. So any tool that aids this gets my vote.

Remember a few years ago when everyone said there was no way to make the installation of MP easy? Now we have the Deploy tool (installer), which it took two years to convince everyone could be done, and installation is much, much easier and causes many less problems. So let's look to the future, because I don't think Microsoft is wasting their money on Windows Media Center just for hobbyists.

I think both of you (tourettes and dadeo) are rigth in some way. On the one hand it would be great if you install MP on a system, open MPEI download all plugins you want, go to config if needed and everything works fine since I know all those plugins work with my system. That would make MP really convenient and easy and somewhat a meinstream program. That is for user that don't see MP as hobby.

But on the other hand it is a hobby to download a plugin that doesn't work correctly or has messed up skin files and you get to get that working. Or even make up ypur own plugin. That's kinda fun. Right now I got all my plugins working and it's somewhat boring. That is for guys seeing MP as hobby. They will need MPEI to spread their ideas.

So all in all MP is for both, some poeple will love its easiness and some people will love to make it better and better. MPEI is good for both.
