I guess the best way to force the new "Dukus" installer to be used, is to only accept skins and plugins for MP1.1.0 and/or MPII as MPEI in the skins/plugins section of the site.
Sure this will be ennoying for the devs in the beginning... and it puts a lot of weight on Dukus' shoulders, as he has to make sure that every possible installation is covered.

I can tell you right now, Moving Pictures will not change installers unless there is a compelling reason to do so. I would love to see tighter integration with MediaPortal and that is something that would definitely convince us to switch, but that is not something that is currently implemented nor taken seriously as far as I can tell. We (the Moving Pictures team) are not going to change just for the sake of changing, there are much better uses of our time. If you disagree, try telling the Moving Pictures enthusiasts on our forum that 0.8 will be further delayed to switch to a new installer app. Sorry but no.

Mockup for a mpi maker wizard

    Hi,

i have made a mockup, how a mpi maker can be done for easy use.
The mockup is only to show like it should work, the design of the wizard should be made then in nice.

I think with such a wizard, mpi would be used much more from skinners and plugincoders.

    Greetings Harley

Not sure if such an uber-easy interface is really needed, it took me half an hour to create an installer with the current version of V2 and I'm sure everyone skilled enough to create a skin/plugin is able to do so as well...

The new installer should concentrate on offering the best possible experience for the users and imo integration into the MP configuration and the UI is key in that. It shouldn't be such a complex, time consuming task for the user to keep the MediaPortal installation up to date.

We've heard that it's "impossible" to remove a dll while mp/config is running -> why? what's the technical limitation that prevents this (it's obviously possible to load dlls) and why isn't it possible to change this? As someone else has mentioned, would it be an alternative to close MP, apply the changes and restart MP afterwards?

I agree, I would much rather see time spent on the user experience and better integration with MediaPortal rather than a hand holding "create an installer the easy way" UI.

Not to be sorry. I hope the time will come when this installer will be good enough to be used by Moving Pictures too, i thing now should stop talking about this Installer and Moving Pictures, this is a free software and anyone can make free choice about it ..

I add a small wizard for creating skins isn't fancy but it is a start pls. comment it ...
Another change it is possibility to link a folder to a group (using button add folder), if in this folder something change will be reflected in group too, in other words if you copy in this folder a file this file automatically will be added to the group same for delete, to test it see the firs post

I window plugin will be coming soon, but this will be a standalone extension and not part of mediaportal base installation.
A another change in MPEI2 what should be mentioned it is the source of update info, for mpi was only one source, the main site repository, for MPEI2 the source is the installed extension witch can contain update for not installed extension too, something like a social network

Hard to say, i don't want to add more features to this project (except a windows plugin to manage extension direct in mp gui), only to finish what i started, but for this i need more feedback. I hope when the mp 1.1 final will be released this project will be good enough to be used by the plugin and skin dev ......

I made a first version of window plugin which should do same job like MPEInstaller. For testing download from first post MPEIPlugin.0.0.1.0.mpe1 and install it using MpeInstaller, but not forget to update the mpeintaller first from zip file.
