I gave up, I completely fed up with the whole HTPC stuff (sorry to post this here, but im tired after a whole friday evening installing and upgrading/downgrading, etc)
At the end I just decide to go back to Vista, and now the performance is super (CPU load is completely idle)

Now all I can do is wait for all other complete random behaviour of the system (that was the reason of the downgrade to XP, but it only introduced new problems)

Seems that i have this problem as well. Tested fullscreen or windowed.
MP is running in single-seat-mode.

Starting MP gives me about 22 to 25 FPS -> click on mytv and i get 2 to 4 FPS (TV is off)

Server Configuration -> click on 'Manual Control' -> Window is nearly locked (takes some seconds just for mouseover events - buttons) <- CPU @ 0%
going away from 'Manual Control' and speed is back

Seem´s that it´s a client/server communication problem. If i´m able to activate a stream (it´s not so easy @ this speed) and connect VLC, i´ll get a perfect video.

tv-card and system are ok. Other TV-Software is working (WinTV, ProgDVB on XP and Kaffeine on Linux)

Time ago I have a similar problem on my client in multiseat mode. It was a sql connection problem, the tcp port of the sql server was closed.
I suggest you to use the latest "MP TV Client" for checking the connection to your tv-server.

thx for this tip.

But doesn´t help. :-(

I deinstalled all M$-Instances and reinstalled it.
Checked connections (shared memory and tcp/ip - hope mp don´t need named pipes) and reinstalled mp.

Server -> manual control -> prog. "stops" responding
Client -> tv -> fps drops down to 3 or less

I'd like to add that I'm having a similar problem (except the frame rate dropping is nowhere near the original poster's)

When watching TV full screen, Shift + 1 shows me that i'm running a smooth 60 frames a second (This is the smoothest I've seen the TVServer run in a long time), the minute I hit the INFO button, it drops to 55 FPS.

Hitting the INFO button again drops it to 50FPS, and hitting the HOME button (Or any button that makes the TV windowed in the corner) makes it bounce around 40FPS. These are nowhere as drastic as the OP's 5FPS, but it surely gives the TV an uncomfortable stutter. I have never had mediaportal do something like this before either, it actually used to be the GUI that stuttered rather than the windowed TV/movie (I didn't get to use RC1 too much so i'm not sure if it had the same problem).

Attached are my logs from starting MP, watching a little TV, hitting the INFO buttons, and the HOME button, please let me know if you need anything else!

Problem "fixed"...
... by using mysql.

All is working now, like is was with older versions of mp and m$-sql server.

Besides MP, SQL-Server is working very well.

I encountered a similar thing on my system.
The reason was that MSSQL seems to operate strange under certain circumstances if you have less ressources.
Adding a second GB of RAM resolved all these strange issues in my case.

    grubi.

Do i interpret your message right, that it´s undesired to post 'funny' tricky problems and solutions for it?

Don´t get me wrong, but it sounds a bit arrogant and it´s hardly traceable for me to read a message
like '.... i ..... never encountered... on any system...' from the Test Team Leader.

There will be a lot of variations on hardware, software and settings you´ll never see.

Erm.... all i do say is that as far as i know, noone of the Team was ever able to reproduce this issue.
And we can not fix issues we are unable to reproduce. :)

So this has nothing to do with "arrogance". ;)
I have seen and encountered a lot of hardware/driver/firmware combination related issues.

But i never encountered the issue of "slow MP GUI".
I do not say that it does not occur, just that i never encountered it on any system. Which have been quite "a few".

    Thats all. :)
