The function of extracting one or multiple fanarts from the video file is very handy ... Unfortunately, this function seems to be broken now.
I am not sure what you mean here. Do you mean the generation of a thumbnail by extracting a single frame from the video file, or is there some other function in MP that does this? (If there is, evidently I don't use it. )

You can right click on a movie's name on the list and choose to download fanarts for that movie. If no fanarts are found (e.g. because it's a very rare/non-mainstream movie) you can open the movie's details with Enter and then right-click again: This way you are given the opportunity to either download fanarts for that movie (an option you won't choose since you already tried it from the list and you know that no fanarts will be found) or extract one or more fanarts from the movie file. The latter is the function that seems to be broken.

I don't download "stuff" from the internet using MP, so there is a good chance that I am not operating MP correctly. However...

I tried following your instructions using the "DefaultWideHD" skin. If any skin is going to work, it is DWHD. But I could not get DWHD to behave in the way that you describe. It behaves the same as Amped.

Over the years I have got the impression that downloading stuff from the internet frequently stops working because the web site changes the API, or requires login, or simply disappears. If downloading stuff does not work with DWHD, it is not going to work with Amped or any other skin. It may be that there is a downloading problem that needs to be addressed by one of the developers (i.e. not a skin problem).

If you think that this ought to work, you need to demonstrate that it works with DWHD, and illustrate each step with a screen shot so that I can see what is supposed to happen.

As I stated before, the function that seems to be broken is the one of extracting frames as fanarts from the movie file (which is stored on your computer or on a NAS). This has nothing to do with downloading fanarts from the internet. Downloading fanarts works perfectly.

I am sorry, but I still don't understand what you are trying to do. :(

You need to demonstrate that the DWHD skin works correctly, and produce a set of screen shots that show each step that you take in performing that function. Without that, there is no more that I can do. :(

As for the software, I did change one thing: I installed the latest MediaPortal 1 (1.36, x86 version).
The function of extracting one or multiple fanarts from the video file is very handy when it comes to movies which are not mainstream or to personal videos. Unfortunately, this function seems to be broken now.
When you installed MP 1.36, did you remember to install the "Fanart Handler" plugin? I have never used that plugin, but from its name it sounds as though it might provide the capability that you are missing.

My HTPC runs MP 1.33, but I don't have that plugin installed, so perhaps it is not surprising that Amped and DWHD on my system do not behave in the way that you described. o_O

Fanart Handler was a good try, although the plugin's site only states that FH supports pushing

fanart that you store on your local harddrive to the current used MP skin.
    • push fanart for now played music
    • push fanart for selected music or movies
    • push random images from selected folder
Anyway, I did not install FH on MP 1.36 at first. I've done it now following your hint. Unfortunately, it did't make the trick.
I switched to DWHD but I coudn't find the option I'm looking for (I never used DWHD before). Maybe TLD is right?

I think that function only existed on Amped.
I have used it when I used Amped for home videos.

I'm attaching a set of screenshot describig what I'm trying to do. I hope it helps.

Are you using a movie plugin? I have been trying to follow your instructions, but starting in the "My Videos" panel. I used a couple of films that I recorded from TV. This is what I see:

    videos.panel.jpg context_menu.jpg

These are quite different from your screen shots.
