2) I have added channel logos to the Channel Logos folder, but they dont show up on the guide. Is the matching between channel names and logo file name case sensitive?
In the channel-folder there should be a readme with more information.

8) How can I install the mmc on another pc (which is not running the FTR service) and have it connect to the FTR service on the remote pc?
Run the install-exe, and only check the MMC to install. Now then you start the MMC for the first time, you'll be asked for the IP of the server. Takes a little time until the window appears, think MMC tries to connect local first.

1) The thing is that the xml I have generated keeps on changing as the cable company keeps on shifting the channels around. Very very irritating but that is how it is. So I have to keep on importing the file. Is that a problem?

No problem at all as long as you keep the XMLTV channel id the same, the name of the channel itself may change.

2) I have added channel logos to the Channel Logos folder, but they dont show up on the guide. Is the matching between channel names and logo file name case sensitive?

No, it's not case sensitive. Read the readme.txt in that director for the naming conventions of the file.

5) Can I import my groups from TVServer? They are already set up in TVServer and I dont want to do it again.

Unfortunately not. But the For The Record API is fully documented on the site, so someone could easily write a tool to do this.

8) How can I install the mmc on another pc (which is not running the FTR service) and have it connect to the FTR service on the remote pc?

For The Record is multiseat by design, so you can install any client anywhere on your LAN. The MMC can even be used over the internet using an https connection.

I apologize for posting such a long list of question etc. Thanks once again for such an excellent and versatile piece of software :D I must also add that the manual is also very well written.

Thank you!

Thanks for replying to almost all my points. You seem to have missed # 7 :) That would be a great feature.
Both 5 and 7 are good ideas! So we'll add those to the wishlist.

One neat new feature of 1.3.1 is going to be an import/synchronization wizard in the Management Console. This will allow you to (re)import existing, moved or new (e.g. from MP) recordings into For The Record. So this basically also allows you to make easy backups of your recordings.

Streaming of Recordings and LiveTV would be amazing.

When you get the time to start implementing it, you should talk to Big_Kev, who is coding the Webinterface for MediaPortal. He just started implementing streaming and I'm sure he has gotten some experience in that area.

I have already installed FTR and have added channels and groups. If I want to start from scratch, is there a way to delete all channels and groups in one go rather than removing each one individually?

You can multiselect all channels by clicking on the first one and shift-clicking on the last one. Then hit the delete button.

Groups you'll have to delete one by one, but you'll have much less of those than channels normally :)

Normally I would consider myself quite high-level in computer-skills, but 4TheRecord has me begging for someone to do a usability overhaul. Spending more than two weeks, I still don't know how to set up 4TheRecord correctly (not the plugin, but the main program). Oh, if just everything came with a setup-guide like MediaPortal ;)

This is odd :) For me it just worked straight out of the box, the only thing I had to "set up" was dropping my tvguide.xml automatically in the right folder. Apart from that, I didn't have to configure anything at all really.

What kind of set up are you trying to achieve?
