Good luck!

Little advice: After you've done the Windows install, updates and drivers/codecs: Create an image of the drive :)
Then you can always install MP again on a clean OS installation which would take you only 15/20 mins to restore.

When MP is installed completely and running perfectly, create another image :)

Hi HomeY,
I note that you and infinityloop (in his Installation Guide) state the process of creating images both before and after MP is installed. What is the purpose of the first image please?

On the same topic, infinityloop's guide also suggests certain apps (Firewall,Antivirus,Imaging) on C:\ and MP be installed on D:\ . Is it a good idea to install ALL apps on D to minimise HD wear and tear on the OS area which I presume is very frequently accessed.

Also, he says that after installing MP if you have a single HD partitioned as C: and D: you should image only C: , and if you have two HDs you should image both C:\ and D:\ , or at least that is how I understand it. Since MP is installed to D with one or two HDs, wouldn't you want to image D in both cases?

(Having just done a clean re-install of XP I am determined to have a squeeky clean system although it cannot be dedicated to MPortal alone. I have learnt much with the XP install (my first), but I think the answers to these questions will round out my knowledge and be clarifying to other people.)

Yours in anticipation,
vur

By creating an image of a fresh windows installation you are able to restore back to this state without installing windows again in case something goes wrong with MP/SQL installation.

I see, and thanks Kotik. I should have realised that reason. I am editing infinityloops guide for my own clarification and will add what you said.

I can see now that the principle of creating images of known good states before adding any new apps is a good one. More than once I have been saved by the XP Restore, but I know it is not foolproof.

As my questions are really branching off-topic somewhat, I will re-post where other people are more likely to find the answers.
