I know this is a bit "well do it yourself", but I am interested in getting a box that will let me upgrade my Fxtl analog box to a new one with HDMI output, no point if I can't feed it into MP. I am sick of my analog Fox looking bad compared to everything else. This thread is overwhelming, I started reading, but if someone in the know could post a bit at the start about what is supported on these boxes, maybe with a how to, that would be cool. If not I will keep browsing 52 pages of stuff. I understand people have issues with develipment software, but maybe a thread about what is "supposed" to work, and another where problems are reported. In the "should work" thread items could be tagged with "may have issues, check other thread" etc.
I really think this is one of the most important MP developments in a long time, being able to bring in Hi Def signals from external sources has been a real lack and this is the only thing I can see that appears to do this.

EDIT
Have read more, and don't think this is going to let fox hi def in because of encoding etc, oh well, keep looking. Am I right about this ?

    Hi graemef

    This thread is overwhelming...
What is so hard to comprehend. There is nothing out of the ordinary from a normal analog-with-blaster setup. Nothing. If you have a blaster working already then you know what is required.

I started reading, but if someone in the know could post a bit at the start about what is supported on these boxes, maybe with a how to, that would be cool.
I'm happy to try, but to be honest I'm not sure what you're confused about. The Colossus supports receiving composite, s-video, component and unprotected HDMI inputs from and STB. It digitises them if necessary and allows you to view the source video on your PC. The thing that makes this setup so awesome is the fact that HDMI inputs work, and that you can combine a Colossus with set-top-box blasting to control your STB from MP. The first part is as simple as connecting a cable and the second part has been possible already for a *long* time - there are instructions -->here<--. The other information that I can contribute is my post -->here<--. All the SchedulesDirect stuff is irrelevant to you, which means you have to create the channels in MP manually, but if you already have an analog setup with blasting then you know about that, you know about blasting, and you know about using XMLTV for EPG.

I understand people have issues with develipment software, but maybe a thread about what is "supposed" to work, and another where problems are reported. In the "should work" thread items could be tagged with "may have issues, check other thread" etc.
As of 1.2.0rc, there is nothing that I know of that won't work. Could you please be more specific? I really have no idea what you're referring to.

Have read more, and don't think this is going to let fox hi def in because of encoding etc,
What did you read that made you think that?

@everyone: these days, ignore almost everything before page 32. Any talk of patches (except the one in the first post) should be ignored. Any talk of problems should be ignored. The general steps for set up are:

    1. Install drivers.
    2. Install MP.
    3. Create channels and channel groups.
    4. Map channels.
    5. Set up logos.
    6. Set up guide data source.
    7. Set up blaster (IRSS recommended).

As always, I'm here to answer specific questions.

Yeah, your right. I just got tired of reading the thread, should have read further. I was trying to find out if this would allow fxtl as an input into MP via HDMI. I will go look elsewhere to see if the fox boxes encrypt on the HDMI output. I know nothing about the colossus and got a bit excited that it may do what I wanted so jumped in too early with questions.
After using MP as my media centre for the last 7 years this is the only oustanding thing I would like. Will read more before posting next time. All i really wanted to know was if this was a way of getting Fxtl into MP via HDMI, didn't intend to denegrate the thread in any way.

    Hi Graemef,

As long as your HDMI output is not HDCP you should be OK. If HDCP is turned on then you will have to use Component + SPDIF as inputs to Colossus.

My colossus is working perfectly on the server machine running 1.2 RC. The problem i'm having is that it only works intermittently on my LAN clients. All are connected through gigabit ethernet so it shouldn't be a bandwidth issue.

Sometimes I play the live stream and it works fine. Other times I see a second or two of the video (i see it type 2 or 3 channel numbers into the box) then it freezes. If I skip back 15 seconds it runs fine until i change channel again.

I don't believe it to be a codec issue as the video and audio works perfectly between these freezes.

The clients and server are all running Windows 7 64-bit. The server is a custom built server, the clients are Zotac ID-11's. Playing a live stream from my HDHR on the clients works perfectly everytime.

    Thoughts?

mm, I believe I downloaded the latest SAF codec collection and used the key to unlock and think I have installed. Hoborg mentions the FFDSHOW DXVA decoder for h.264 and I do see that in the Video settings. He also mentions CYBERLINK in the TV settings asns that does seem to show up as an option.

    Log is attached. Thanks again!

    Hi David

You're going to have to stick with hoborg's help on this. I have no idea when it comes to SAF - never used it. I can say that it doesn't appear that you have the Cyberlink codec installed. I have no idea why or how to fix that.
