Yes, mpg file.
The crash seem to be in ntdll.dll - this is Windows core library. Something really wrong happening here.

Please try this - open graphstudio, Graph - insert filter - look for "Video Mixing Renderer 9" and double click on it. Now you should have this filter in graph. Is it here or Graphstudio crash?

i am so confused...
its working now.. i'm still on 4.0
didnt get 5.0 working...

but whilst i was waiting for ya reply.. i uninstalled my pci express ati card.. and just went back to onboard nvidia.. incase it was a ATIvsNVidia Battle.
went into the video card software and tried clicking around and seeing if it made any difference....

i went in and changed from QUALITY to HIGH PERFORMANCE
and it suddenly all worked!??!?
so i changed it back to QUALITY... AND IT STILL WORKS!!!!

so i have now put my ATI Card back.. and its all working...
so that switch must have triggered something in registry or something.... i am trying to track down what it is...
i am so sorry i cant tell u exactly what the trigger was... but i will update very shortly..

upgraded to version 5
and now i am back in the world of it not working.
when i try and open a movie in the graph program it just crashes... same as mediaplayerclassic does! :/

interesting.. i have found that if i then reinstall XPSP3... all works perfectly!

altho it re-associates videos to normal media player.. thats all ok.
just trying a complete reinstall of mediacenter to try it.

i may give up and try windows7 soon

The crash seem to be in ntdll.dll - this is Windows core library. Something really wrong happening here.

Yes, it is a Windows core library but the crash can be caused by the application code (which is the more likely case than MS bug instead).

Just to hammer the nail into the coffin on this story.

I have installed Windows 7 (ultimate 64bit)
and everything installed perfectly!
video playback seems slightly jumpy (frame rate wise)
so i installed the intelligent frame rate thing... fixed it immediatley!

very happy.
thanks to everyone for advising on this one.
