i was using xbmc (i still am), and read the post where Mario and Frodo decided to port xmbc to the pc :)

i think the funniest thing is that before media portal development started frodo was always asking why anyone would want xbmc on the pc *g*

    yeah, just for laughs....
Frodo posts regarding xbmc on PC :))))

    --------1--------

Its not 2 hard to port XBMC to windows (xp)
I guess it could be done withing lets say 1-2 weeks
    However why do this?
there are already very good alternatives for the pc like:

    - showshifter
    - MyHTPC
    - windows media center 2004
    - freevo (linux)
    - MythTV (linux)

and prolly a lot more i dont know off...
    Frodo

    ------2------
    Actually
it makes more sense 2 port it to longhorn
Creating an app similar to XBMC in Longhorn with C# and XAML would be soooo easy

Much easier then doing the same stuff on XP
    Frodo

I searched for an alternative to myHTPC in sourceforge, found a lot of never ended and continued projects and got stuck here. And if MP at least will run on my PC, I´ll be really glad and kickk myHTPC! :D

Porting to PC? 1-2 weeks huh???
Did someone make a slight miscalculation?
    Or was that just ever-optimistic programmer-speak? :D :D

Looks like its turning into a monster!!
Still, opensource so I aint complaining.... the longer we develop it, the better the program becomes for everyone!

I found MediaPortal via SourceForge.net, I tend to look for things there first as a lot of programs are open-source and do just as good a job as commercial versions. (e.g look at openoffice.org! ) :)

well, actually the porting itself didn't take very long as i remember, it's just that xbmc was only the base of what mediaportal has become :)

like for example the tv module wasn't even existent in the xbox version...

starting to get really pissed by TVCentral <grin>, I started googling for "htpc open source", found a lot of no-no-software and finally found my new home here with you guys..... :D

So "mentioned in a forum" is the closest match!

    Cheers!

    Daniel

I hadn't tried tvcentral, but found it googling for opensource htpc

Nop, but instead of porting we re-wrote it from scratch
XBMC is written in C++, Mediaportal in C#
XBMC uses mplayer, Mediaportal uses DirectShow/WMP10
    etc etc
so its not a port and therefore takes much more time
But (i think) the endresult is much better
