How do I enable VMR9? (1 Viewer)

Is my video card. I don't know much about VMR9. But when i want to play Overlay videos in MP I get a message that I need to use VMR9. I cannot find any settings in my Video Overlay in my video card that says VMR9. So I am lost here. I believe it supports VMR9, but I don't know if I am missing something.

If you have Windows Media Player 10 installed then VMR9 is enabled.

I don't think so, because MP has no way of knowing at which timestamp the external player stopped playback.
Best way to achieve this would be to use an auto-resume feature in your external player itself. (MPC-HC can do that, I don't know about VLC)

maybe setting loglevel to debug might pinpoint the difference between normal and stuck?
Preferable with as much disabled as possible
also try to see if anything is happening during stuck for the mediaportal process(resource monitor, disk activity, cpu usage, anything)
maybe other programs competing for resouces?

Since over a year my MP sometimes stucks while showing the welcome screen. It started once a week now it happens every second time...
I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ?
MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback.
If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo.
